The CEC 8001 was their cheapest (that’s what the ‘1’ signifies…) belt drive model (not sure what the ‘a’ means) from the early-1980’s, with rumble of 60dB weighted DIN-B and wow and flutter of 0.1% WRMS. It will be a competent hi-fi turntable, but a long way from the best of that time, which would have been around 10 or 15dB quieter.
The straight tonearm looks quite good, and CEC did say once that their straight black tonearms didn’t resonate as much as chrome-plated ones, due to the chrome plating creating stresses in the tubing (allegedly

Similar-priced turntables from opposition brands at the time (1981) included the Akai AP-B20, Kenwood KD-1500 and KD-1600, Pioneer PL-100 and Technics SL-B2. If you do a search for them on Ebay under the sold listings, you might find what they’ve been selling for recently. Subtract a bit due to CEC being a relatively unknown brand name to many consumers…
