CA-3000 the hunt begins

Note to self… when reflowing around the feed thru " pins"… don't push the pin UP or down.. and don't ASSUME the solder connection on the other side will reflow perfectly.
I reflowed a bottom pin.. and pushed it up JUST a hair.. the connection on the OTHER side was cold as Alaska… clean , reflow….filter problem SLOVED.

We came we saw we did MORE

In and out of the fader board re capped which what I had in stock ( running outta parts ) was able to totally clean the rear fader element.. and got tricky with the front.. Now the volume control doesn't SUCK and it's about 97% there… a little bit of crunch at the very start… but it would be picking pepper outta fly doo-doo… the pre is starting to open up.. I think the best change is getting the black junk off the edge connector pins.. So it's all back together ( almost ) need to find some hard parts ( power switch, muting switch, green LED's ) more cal & cleaning and BOOM she's race ready….

THEN BA 3K the NEXT HUNT….

2 AM engineering

The power switch looked like it got the Bruce Lee 1 inch punch…
Mechanicals were TWEAKED.
The fingers that rock the 2 leafs had there back's snapped off.
and the top mount point off the switch was snapped in 2 pieces.
( GREAT )

So bending, cleaning, gluing and I think all the sub assemblies will work once the J&B dries.

Yesterday evening, I used a LITTLE crazy glue to hole the top bits back to the switch body… just now I filed & scraped so the epoxy could hold things better.

Have a tiny bead of J&B to hold the spring to the fingers just to make re assembly easier.

All contact points are clean ( er )…
So lets see if this works… the ONLY switch I was able to find was 132.00!
( and that was on SALE ) SHEESH

So on the BA-3000 front… I saw this on Ebay 161334997758 Canada EH?
Now tell me I'm crazy….. He will take $900 ( + 90 shipping ).
I think he's OUT OF HIS MIND.. tell me if I'm outta line here and that's market value these days…

Blown & chromed…... sounds good on my 64 Vette. Not my POWER AMP!!

A modified (OMG that front panel !!!) non-runner for that cost - seems too much to me.

Better 121353253595.

Oh yes that is much nicer but out of the " budget" … PLUS I wound be able to do " my " do to it…...

Power switch.. FAIL
I didn't notice the cracks in the gray piece ( rocker ) that holds in the fingers.. switch worked 2X SNAP… back to the drawing board…..Everything else held nicely though.. Grrrrrrr
After more thinking, soul searching & balancing the checkbook ( finding I made a 225 double entry ) I laid down & bought the E bay power switch….
1 switch down.. 1 to go…..

Yep I know what you mean, it even be an AK'er who did the work?

I have a job ahead of me re-doing a partially done recon on a B-2102 and C-2102 - and I know it will feel weird changing out the crap that's been put in. It probably won't make much difference - just my OCD kicking in ;)

John if it was an AK'er who re did it.. that would be fine...
But since retirement.. I can't be as LAVISH about luxury purchases...
PLUS
These are all projects to keep me " amused ".. since most of my close friends are still working for a living....
I did buy an AU 6600 CHEAP.... just to get re aquainted PLUS I MIGHT get it working and part it out There are some minor parts I need off it..... for an other project...

I hear you Mike, I'm not retired yet - I really have to get into that mindset, sooner or later. ;)

And now - back to normal your normal program... :D

DARN IT overslept by 4 minutes !!!!!!
Missed a BA-3K from Rinkya $430.00 ( and whatever shipping woulda been ) CLEAN……. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Power switch mod CA-3000

SO CLOSE… but no cigar…YET

So in a DESPERATE attempt to resolve the power switch ISSUE..
I bought a power switch for a Sansui SC-1100 cassette…
In hopes to graft bits together and make FRANKEN-SWITCH…

With 10 minutes I was able to graft my OLD back to the new front.. YEAH!
The cassette is only a DPST switch with isn't QUITE right for the CA-3000

BUT my old back fit on PERFECTLY ( JB weld and all )

The is a center tang on the switch that needs to be bent up ( easy tweak ).
AND
There is a black plastic insert on the nose surrounding the shaft.. that pops out with out to much of a fight…

So I'm thinking I'm DONE… Ahhhh not so fast the hole pattern is inverted.
BUT all 4 holes are punched out on the CA-chassis…. YEAAAAAAA!

Slide in in the chassis… OH NO MR BILL… the hole pattern is off…

So I need to have a think on how to make an adaptor plate..
OR
give the front chassis a little bit of a grind ( NO MAN DON'T DO THAT! )

BUT IT"S REAL DAMN CLOSE…. and this MIGHT be an out for someone with an AU-9900-BA-2000-CA-3000 ( or similar ) that has a COMPLETELY broken switch..

Note here.. the contractors in the cassette switch looks like they would be good for 5-7 amps.. so this would need the SCR mod to boot on a power amp

But it's a way out of the mouse trap.. ( more to follow )

This could work

So here's some chicken scratch showing what needs to be done to fit this…
But if you have NO OTHER OPTION this wouldn't suck as a repair…

The angle of the switch in the OFF position wouldn't match by ~ 20 degrees…
Once you get the front panel on.. only a FEW would be the wiser..

The bottom pix is a trace of the front panel.. the Ol business card behind the front panel trick…So accuracy of measurements… file to fit...

1 of the 2 final switch caps came in.
Need to make the final cap order ( but now it sounds amazing )
Waiting on the power switch..
Waiting to hook up with my welder buddy to see if I can fix ( extend ) the lever for the 3 position attenuate switch to left of the volume control...

DAMN YOU RINKYA....
BA-3K....
Was up 20 min before auction end.... had my finger on the trigger
got outbid with 1 MICROSECOND left to go..
No auto extension... just got SNIPED...
ARRGGGGHHHHHHHHH

I think you have to press the trigger good few seconds before, just to be sure. Better luck next time

I was the high bid with 12000 yen of margin with 1 sec to go.... Someone just wanted it MORE....Sigh now hurry up and wait....

Power switch in & working... going to try a graft on to the atten switch of an original good switch arm/ shaft and some thin aluminum to make a splint.... on the broken switch arm which is just missing the little tit on the end
