I already use MX-1000 for my Infinity Re90, very demanding speakers. I don't listen to loud .... on my Yamaha display ca. 6-10Watts on 4 ohms.

And now the question comes...

What do you think about replace MX-1000 by M-85 and run only in pure class A?

thanks,

Technical no problem, to do so or not is almost a religious question and only you self can say if it was a good idea or not.

Try it but don't let go of the MX-1000 until you are 100% positive about the change - this would be my advice.

I am new to Yamaha collection game, and I love them. I have started off with a CA 610 II. It is in great working condition. I am searching for a CA 810 of equal quality but have found none just yet. I am not skilled at reparations like the rest of the group so I have to have something already go. I have however climbed the tuner mountain. In a very short time, I went from CT 610, 810, to 1010. The CT 1010 is my current tuner and I am happy.

I have two questions for the group. How should I clean the metal and meters for the beautiful look I see in your pictures. Second, how do you post the larger pictures "in" your posts.

Best Wishes,

DK

Just got a CR 1020 from Kenindc and a pair of Polk 7b's from Rastafish. Ken said Rob had gone through the Yamaha and the Polks sound great to me. I use this combination when keeping volume levels at low to mid levels. I am a happy boy.

Just got my CR 2020 back from the shop

I thought I had major problems, but it turned out to be some switches that were oxidized / corroded. My Yammie is now back to 100% for the first time in a long time. I forgot how much I like this receiver! It has an awesome preamp section, phono section, and the tuner rocks! Yah-hoo!

Here is my two channel music set up:

Yamaha avc-30/u integrated (100w x 2 rms)
Panasonic sl-ps352 cdp
Kenwood kvs-400 floor standing
Monster cable 16 ga. speaker wire, Radio Shack interconnects

The Yamaha is really clean both cosmetically and sound wise. It has so many features for a 1987 amplifier. I got a great deal on it too..$80 on ebay. I'm sure it won't be my last Yamaha. I'm sold on them now.

I'm just curies about any advantage / disadvantage between Class A amp and HCA solution.

Also I will try a bi-amp scenario with Class A for high and mids and MX-1000 for bass.

Thanks

Not to switch gears here...BUT.....What the hell is with that little mx-35 20/40 watt amp? Got one off ebay for like $65.. I wanted it to drive a set of Jamo outdoor speakers, one day while playing around I hooked it to a small small set of Kef's. It sounded great! So I hooked it to my klipsch, same thing! Great clean, crisp, detailed... I have an Accuphase and I must say, no amp you can buy for 65 bucks should sound that good. I love this goofy little amp! I'm stunned here folks. Anyone else out there know what I 'm talking about? I have heard some great values in audio (philips 900 series cd players, b&w dm 110i speakers, etc), but this little amp takes the cake!

deeter it sounds like the MX-35 already gave you the best welcome to the sound of Yamaha, so I give the 2. - Welcome to the NATURAL SOUND.

The MX-35 was Yamahas 2. Amp in the early surround sound (M-35 1986, MX-35 1989), it was meant to run with the DSP-1 and DSR-100 Pro for a full surround setup. Where the M-35 + DSP-1 + MSV-1 was the first stage with no surround encoding, but only added 4 channel reverb. The DSR-100 Pro replaced the MSV-1 and added Dolby Surround Pro Logic encoding. Yamaha also added the DSP-100 and 300.

Yamaha also released a TOTL setup in the Titanium series; the MX-55 together with the mighty DSP-3000, this they meant to be the ultimate surround setup in 1989.

If you need a small 2 ch amp it might be worth to look at the A100 or A100a, they where targeted to run NS-10M speakers in studios and deliver 50+50W@8ohm (not rated for low ohm loads) it is another of those a-ha experiences. But don't tell, it is just between me and you.

Thanks for the info T-R Mandak..... I have a couple of Yamaha receivers I use for movies/music...One of them is an rv 1103 (sounds great!) the other is the htr 5660 (good for movies but music is...well, I don't know, flat?) no depth or soul? What changed? These units sound nothing alike.. I also have a cx 600u (hooked to the mx-35).. I have used a great number of yamaha stuff but have not been a big fan of the cd players..They don't seem to track errors as well as others.... Not a problem with the yamaha dvd player (sounds great!!!) and I am glad I bought it! But I don't seem to be as lucky with the two cd players I have owned from them.... Thanks again for the info.
But I must say, I have alot of yamaha in my systems!

The MX-10000 which is the finest amp that Yamaha manufactured uses HCA. Yamaha's engineers considered HCA to be better than traditional Class A.
