That's a great looking amp. The design is very similar to the M-2, but more robust.

Very nice gear. I lusted after the M-80 back in the '80's and bought one new as soon as I could afford to. What speakers are you using?

I would give that amplifier (M-85) some breathing room.Try not to cover up the cooling vent on top of the amp.Nice Amp BTW...

Infinity ES-103s and JBL L46s. I'd like to update the speakers, I've been eyeing some NHT 2.5s of late. Any suggestions?

As for cooling as it is right now the vents on top are not blocked, their is about an inch of space between the M-85 and the DSP but I suppose I could move the M-85 to the top but that's about all I can do for now.

If you drove your system active, three M-2`s would easily get you the same peak SPL as your current passive setup !!

Let's do some calculations:

2400W/8Ohm = 33.8 dB-1W
Speaker power compression = 4.5dB
102 dB-SPL-1W/1m + 33.8 dB - 4.5dB = 131.3 dB SPL peak (Ouuuch !!!)

This will give you about 50% THD in your ears, so you can continue to use the "Studio Reference Amplifiers" from QSC (Every so-called Studio Reference sounds the same at such high sound pressure levels - In Germany we say: "During night all cats are grey") :D

I just resently bought a KX-1200 from a guy here in DK, he is selling off most of his black Yamaha stuff. The reason why he do this, see pic below.

Well...2400w/8ohm is only 1 channel 1/2 the power.
I have 2 amps @ 2400 watts each, total main power 4800 watts then 2 amps x 1000w/4ohm for each sub, total sub bass power 2000 watts
Complete system power 6800 watts (not that I could ever stand it that loud but I have tried)
