cambridge audio cd player

does anyone have the cambridge audio azur 740c cd player if so do you like it and recommend it. im thinking of getting this unit but would like to hear from someone that has it. thanx brad

I've got a 640 C V2, which is one step lower and since it arrived home it won the place of honor in my main system. I'm now looking for a 840. The 640, at least in my system, produces a very natural sound (I mean, acoustic instruments sound very close to their originals). Voices and strings are particularly favored with respect to other CDPs of similar budget. Here there is a review of the 740 in TNT:

I don't have one but either 540, 640 or 740 are based on the same Wolfson dac. You pay more for extra bells and whistles on the 740 model. This is a great CD player and you can't go wrong with it, there are some mods available on the web to stretch its performance further.

I got a barely used 840 in mint condx. recently and the matching amp NIB, so I could get off the upgrade/crossgrade/downgrade/box-o-the-month vicious cycle for awhile again. I think it is a fine player and with good speakers I can get just about all the satisfaction I can stand from it. Only thing is playing around with balanced connections, which this uses. Gonna find the best DIY combo I can as cables do seem to affect it a little bit. Their stuff is Chinese I guess but better grade Chinese. But no long term experience so we shall see how it all holds up. Solid build quality for me. I suppose you could make the front panel twice as thick and call it solider or something, but it would be wasted weight! This thing can DAC for much higher resolution media, just figuring out what to use for a source of said media is baffling right now. Notice CD sections in box stores are shrinking to make room for video?
