Can't find that warm sound I want.

I stayed in an airbnb a while back with a pretty basic marantz amp and table(not sure which) and some advent speakers. The sound I heard out of that system was magical to me, like a warm hug for my ear holes. After that I had to build my own system. I posted a few questions on Audio Karma, did a lot of research and ended up with a pretty kickass setup....but it doesn't sound like that warm hug I wanted. I tried to get ahold of the airbnb to ask about the setup but can't get in contact. Maybe you guys can give me some advice based on what I have now as to what I need to replace to get the warm sound I want.

Currently I have:
Sansui 7070
Mitsubishi LT-20
MMC 20CL
ADS L520's

I guess I'm trying to figure out where the loose link in the chain is. Is Sansui 7070 considered warm? Like if I get different speakers will that fix the issue? Or does the problem lie more in the amp?

The Large Advents are warm because they don't do highs well. I never really noticed until I did an A/B test with a Sansui 9090 with stacked Advents v Boston Acoustics A200's. Cymbals were especially weak.

SO don't get the advents and replace the amplifier instead?

Another thing to consider is room acoustics & speaker placement at the airbnb compared to your current listening environment. It can make a world of difference sound presentation wise.

Sansui for starters is a fantastic sounding amp. Get some jbl speakers and pair it with the sansui if you want a warm sound. If you want really warm get a Marantz and JBL speakers.

Im a neutral fan.....so my preference is Yamaha...if I want to add colour I turn on my eq.

I have bought and sold countless pieces, but will never sell my sansui 4000, CA 1010 / CT 1010 and NS-690s.
 
Most 60's to early 70's stuff sounds warm, I'm not sure if it was the circuit design of the amps or if they were just designing the gear around the speakers at the time which had decent rolloff at higher frequency's, it was probably a mixture of both.

The warmest sounding setup I have ever heard was a Kenwood KR-5150 (1971) and KLH 23's (1968?)
 
Sansui should be a warm to neutral receiver. I'd say issue is speakers. Warm to me means AR2ax or AR3/3a or KLH 25, Original Advent. Check out East Coast sound speakers. ADS are nice but punchy and a tad bright.

Tubes are not the only answer to warm. Many of the receivers from the 70s as well as some amps from that period (Mac solid state) have a warm sound signature as well.

IMHO the Sansui 7070 is a great sounding receiver, but not "warm".

While everyone will tell you that an amp shouldnt sound like anything, every manufacturer has their own sound "signature".

You want warmth, get a Marantz 22xx series(not the "B" variants), an old Pioneer SX x2x or x3x(skip the 4 digit variants) series, or tubes.

I have a Marantz SACD, which used a proprietary internal DAC, it too has a warm sound (which I also love). What I would recommend, is a vintage EQ. These can be difficult to find in great condition, but you could have one recapped. I would recommend the ones without the slides, buttons. Here you will not have the associated static. With the EQ, you should be able, by boosting the mid-range and reducing the highs a bit, create a warmer sound. I use Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers, and they also produce a "warmer" sound. Purchasing an EQ would be, by far, the least expensive option. I hope this helps a little :)
