Can't find that warm sound I want.

I had a Pioneer sx1250 45yrs ago, threw it away, 35 yrs ago, after it quite working twice. A month ago I hooked up a Pioneer sx650 I had bought a couple years earlier. I did not have any vintage speakers left so it was connected to some crappy speakers. Suddenly I was overcome with massive amounts of warm nostalgic feelings. It was all about the warm familiar tone. All I wanted to do for the next couple weeks was listen to the stereo, radio,records or cassettes didn't matter. 1 month later and I'm full bore vintage. Bought a Sansui 2000, 2 Kenwood KR-710, one works one I'm trying to restore, a Technics receiver and 3 pairs of Sanui speakers. My experience suggests that its the receiver more than the speakers. The amp you had years ago is the warm sound you crave. The Pioneer sx650 works great for me. Sansui speakers not so much as I had large advents originally. Maybe I'll sell some sansui speakers after I recap them and get Advents.

The sound I heard out of that system was magical to me, like a warm hug for my ear holes. After that I had to build my own system. I posted a few questions on Audio Karma, did a lot of research and ended up with a pretty kickass setup....but it doesn't sound like that warm hug I wanted. I tried to get ahold of the airbnb to ask about the setup but can't get in contact. Maybe you guys can give me some advice based on what I have now as to what I need to replace to get the warm sound I want.

Try changing your cartridge on your turntable a sumiko pearll is a nice warm carriage that’s affordable

I just read first page of thread.
Rogue Cronus Magnum V3, with quad of KT120 Tubes. 100 wpc. Warms up ADS L880s nicely. I think would work well with your 520s. It's a tube amp that needs little fussing or tweeking. Only minus is KT120 replacement tubes are only made in Russia. It can use other spec power tubes. A used version 1 or 2 are still great amps, and cheaper.

If just considering warmer speakers. Consider Boston Accoustics A100 series 1 with Seas tweeters. Similar to Large Advent's 10" two-ways. But IMO, less tizzy tweeters.
Also Ohm bookshelf like model C2.

The Speakers, what model? usually, a warm sound comes from a tube type amp also. Was the Marantz a tube type? I also concur with the Cartridge type and Tracking force.

The Marantz 1060, as many have noted, also gives that warm sound. My first system was its weak sister the 1030 with an AR turntable and a cheaper Shure cart. For FM, a McIntosh MR71 or a Scott 310E tube tuners would fill the slot. Now you need to find a broadcast FM station without too much Optimod compression and programming you like.

I guess the kids nowadays don't know about Panama Red. I'm told the current substitute is Wedding Cake but whatever gives you that "couchlock" would do.
