That's the right idea- but not nearly as much power as the Sansui you already have. The 7070 is 65w/ch, whereas the Marantz 1060 is only 30w/ch.

I'd be looking for a Marantz 1120 or 1152DC, instead. 60 or 76 watts per channel, with that same Marantz sound.

Or, a Marantz 2265 or 2275 receiver- those will also have that same sort of sonic signature.

I thought the 1152DC sounded better than either of the other two. It's got basically the same output section as the 2275 receiver. Smooth and powerful. I owned an 1152DC for quite a while, and kind of regret selling it.

Interesting sonic desire, I guess..
I`ve personally always strived for very accurate (surgical desired, if you will !) in sound reproduction, by looking for and minimizing any tonal coloration in the reproduced sound has been the goal since 1974 as finances, equipment`s location allowed.

Pursue, find, and hopefully enjoy, whatever your sonic goals might be, folks.

I sold the "10" series in college working part time at a shop in Atlanta. I think the challenge is they were voiced for flat response up top. I had LV1020s when I was 18, but they had individual level controls for each driver making it easy to roll off the top a bit.

I prefer a tilted response - with a small boost at bottom and matching attenuation at top.
 
I grew up in a home with tubes. Nothing but warm will ever sound right to my ears. My cap coupled receiver (Sansui 800) feels right, like a favorite pair of blue jeans. It’s dynamic but liquid and comfortable. All of the detail is there but it’s not a brightness. It’s a texture.
 
I'm quite happy with my recent Electrocompianet AW100 acquisition. Very lush, but dynamic with tight bass. Slightly rolled off on the top, but far from objectionable.

Sounded really fine with a pair of Magnepans that I once had
It's a sweet sounding amp when run with a tubed preamp ..
 
Without plugging any gear this time, here's what you need to get "warm" sound:

1) Speakers with sealed cabinets (no ports) and woofers of 8" or larger
2) Amps with low damping factors (< 50)

Tube amps and cap coupled amps have low damping factors, which is why everyone is suggesting them, and acoustic suspension speakers have sealed cabinets.
 
While the Sansui x0x0 series of receivers are certainly capable and well thought of, it seems they represent a transition point away from the quest to make solid state electronics feel like tube. We gave away our fully restored 9090 and kept the 7000, using it with either ADS L620's or NLAs. Warm and comfy, like flannel sheets.
 
I don't know why Marantz Receivers do not appeal to me. The "Elton John" of receivers may be a little too flamboyant for my tastes. When I see them, all I can think of is the outfit he is wearing when playing crocodile rock on the muppets.

I am a fan of the Yamaha CA line-up. More regular potatoes chips and not all dressed.

I always thought up though the mid 70's Marantz gear had more of an industrial look.
Late 70's Marantz gear had a bit more flare. Kind of an Art Deco look.
 
My system is driven buy a Denon DRA-1025-R. I have two sets of speakers connected, Polk Monitor 70s on speaker A, and a pair of Marantz 7 Mark II on speaker B. If I want to listen to detailed, somewhat bright music I listen to the Polks. If I want a warmer sound I listen to the Marantz speakers. If I want a really bright sound, I would hook in my pair of pioneer C88s.

I guess what I am saying is that in my instance at least, speakers make more of the difference than trading receivers. I do have another receiver, a Yamaha R-S700 that I don't think sounds as good with any of my speakers as does the Denon. Just my opinion.
 
I haven't read all the suggestions above but the first thought that popped into my head as a Fisher 500 tube receiver and a pair of original Large Advents with a classic FM station.

Add a little bourbon or Panama Red and that is a pleasurable evening!
