Canton Speaker Capacitor and Coil Reference Thread

just took a look at the list -i would say You have made a mistake - please check!
There are 121 items listed in the first post, and 262 posts so far in the thread.

It would be helpful if you told me exactly what you are making reference to.

Please note that I do not have a perfect memory and do not spend all of my time in this thread. I am happy to make corrections but you have to wok with me a bit.

Hello,

I would like to share my next experience with CANTON speakers. I had an opportunity to purchase older ERGO 80 in good condition with low price month ago, so I decided to buy them and try the sound of speakers build in 1991.

The cabinets and drivers are very nice. I expected some famous sound of ERGO line too. After connecting to amp and listening few songs I was, however, a little disappointed. Of course that there was a hint of upper level speakers, but the sound has been strangely balanced.

The alu-mangan tweeters were muffled somehow and the first step was to disassemble them and clear the space between coil and magnet. The coils have been jammed by some sort of oxidation dust. The tweeters started to work perfectly after cleaning and assembly with shifting to the proper position.

One of the crossovers was freely flying in the cabinet, so I fixed this mechanical issue that influenced inner dumping, resonance and also moved with dumping foam.

As regards crossovers and capacitors there are MKTs in tweeter line but two elco bipolars in mid/bass and bass line. This time I decided to keep MKT types everywhere and changed Cantons elco 5906 (8,2uF), 1183 (15uF) with Monacor MKTs.

After all these changes I placed again the speakers to the right positons in the room, connected to amp and started to evaluate.

Wow, what a change in the sound, these are the speakers where you hear perfectly separated instruments, voices, rendered scene is really big and spacious with a clearness that couldn’t be reached with my previous LE 170.

Also, with the elco caps there were less details in mid/bass and the overall sound was colder/darker, the sound with MKT caps is more open with more mid/bass details and also slightly warmer.

So overall I’m happy with these ERGO 80.

at some point someone had an idea that it would be ok to put a crossover from LE250 instead original GL310. doing that, this person changed capacitor and coil values from GL310. I would not know that if I wasn't open both boxes and took out both crossovers.

so,it seems that Laczko was right and the value of 2102 capacitor is 6,8uF 60Vac.

from original GL310 crossover we have one new value,it is 2578 capacitor,and it's value is 68uF 40V...

I am very sorry to make such a mess,I have just read what was written on the capacitor and on the board of one loudspeaker, without knowing that anyone has changed anything in it. who would know...

I have sent a message to a eBay seller who has two GL310 crossovers to sell... when they arrive I will post detailed pictures of an original condition.

Hello all friends!

I can to repair a Canton Nestor 603 after the "optimizaithion" old owner. It has a Fonum 602 crossover installed, and I'm interested in the value and types of the 1104 and 4408 capacitors.
Is it possible to replace the crossover from another speaker model?
:bigok:Thak you so much all for your work in collecting "gold" information!!!!

Thanks for sharing the values in post #1. I found couple parts for my recapping.

Cap 2710 should be listed as 33uF not 30uF. Please edit it for future readers.

I have couple of crossovers for Canton GLE 70 and 60 and I have notticed that this 2710 cap sometimes is RAW (raugh) and sometimes PLAIN (glatt). Maybe it doesn't matter in this particular point of crossover and they were putting what they had in that time.
