Cartridge advice for a technics SL-QD33

Any suggestions for a replacement cartridge for my
technics SL-QD33 turntable ? It has a audio technica
PT-300 at present Thanks , Kris

Not very many options you can buy new. Shure makes the M 92, Grado makes a few too, and Audio-Technica a few. That's it. Caveat, the Grados are not strict T4p compliant. There are some Ortofon OMP still left new, but they are discontinued. And not T4p compliant until Stylus 20 or 30 is used.

If you shop around, you should be able to buy an AT92E-CD for less than the price of the stylus that comes with it. Then you'd have the option of using the stylus with your PT-300 or replacing the entire cartridge.

Thanks to all , I'll look around , did not know that the stylus
could be changed out ... , is it easy, or just leave it alone
and swap out the cartridge ? Kris

I have that same tt as my secondary tt. I'm currently using a Shure RX76 cart/stylus on it and it sounds pretty decent....... I like it. I also have a shure M95 cart/stylus that works pretty well with it

I use the Shure RX76 p mount with adaptor on the Technics headshell and a Shure M95. The AT92E-CD is also a good choice

Yes, the stylus alone can be removed and replaced. But as was said, it's just as cheap or cheaper to buy the whole AT92E (same as the AT92ECD with different packaging), which is virtually the same cartridge as your PT300. Remove the fixing screw on the side of the headshell, pull the cartridge out, push the new one in, replace the screw. Done.

Or were you asking about the possibility of getting a different cartridge with a different sound?

I've looked around town here for a AT92E , nobody has it in stock
so I'll have to mail order it . Any suggestions of who is a good

The AT 92E (elliptical) stylus is upgrade-able to hype elliptical and Shibata type.

I wouldn't exactly say the Shure M92E is crap. Yes, the stylus that it comes with is crap. Both the Shure M92E and the AT92E are " value" cartridges because of the inexpensive styli that comes installed on them. The AT92E does have a slightly better factory original stylus that tracks better than the Shure. What really should be said here is that the AT and the Shure have completely different sounds. The Shure is more of a warm balanced sound and the AT has more of a brighter up front sound. Both can be "upgraded" by replacing the stylus. There are several options for both. The AT wins for the best sound right out of the package. The Shure cartridge is basically an M97xe body in a P-Mount form factor. I use both from time to time depending on the sound I am looking for and the quality of the vinyl I am playing. I "upgraded" my M92E with an N97xe stylus and am very pleased with the result. It is not a plug and play solution as it will no longer comply with the T4P standard weight. I had to adjust the tracking force (easy to do on the SL-QD33).

Ok fine...whatever.

The Shure M92E STYLUS is crap.

The Shure also sounds like crap because of the STYLUS, and a cantilever that looks like a tiny chisel. I had this cartridge and after about a week or so, tossed it in the trash (the STYLUS assembly). I kept the cartridge body and got a brand new M94E stylus assembly from LPGear....miraculous difference.
