Philips/Magnavox with the TDA1540 or TDA1541 DACs

I also like the first gen Technics / Panasonic MASH DAC players.

The PS1 has a following but finding a good working example may be difficult. Also using the controller seems less than ideal unless you modify them to bypass.

Which Technics mash for example? I readed that tda 1541 dont work well on all cd players, you had any specific model which sounds very good?

If want TOTL look for the players that used a single or double crown DAC and a CDM-1 mechanism.

So many MASH DAC players I couldn't even start to list. Yamaha, NAD and probably others used MASH DACs as well. I have yet to hear a MASH DAC I didn't like. Even the portable players.

What about Technics sl pg480? What hifi have it on list of best cd players. What about harman Kardons which had delta sigma 1 bit which was like mash

This Marantz CD6007 would be my choice for a mid priced CD player if you can find one.

And for those on a tighter budget the Cambridge AXC35 CD Player looks like a fine choice.

If you have a good DAC, You should consider a CD Transport like the Cambridge CXC V2.

I wanted something older, like from 80s or 90s

But dont tube in cd makes it sound lazy?
I'm not sure what that means...but I'll say this: I have a 10k vinyl playback chain (to the tube preamp). My 2k CXC V2 + Denafrips Ares II (into tube pre) comes pleasingly close in SQ...different for sure, but not disappointing.

I am on my 2nd Marrantz CD-63 Mk2 Ki Signature CD Player after foolishly selling one off 10 years ago. The first thing I always notice is how analogue or ‘vinyl like’ it makes everything sound.. the from mids up it just sounds like nothing else I’ve heard. The mids down are just lush and perfect. If you can hunt one down I highly suggest giving it a go.

quick, effective, inexpensive way to make digital sound like vinyl.
