Celestion UL6

Just sold a pair....Had them for a year or so. .. mine had a tendency to bottom out.

But, low powered, up at ear level and Jazz fed, they put out great imaging and envelopping sound.

Look for UL10.. I will !

I rarely listen loud, so I might not have the issues you've had. But so far, I've never even seen a pair, so any concerns are theoretical.
And I have to confess that the weird squat horizontal shape of the UL 6s is part of their appeal, so the UL 10s don't make me drool as much.

They are only good for 20ish watts....so fidelity, not house rockers for certain. The crossovers are connected via a nifty little clip and 2 nuts secure them, so very easy to remove and service.

Love them myself, ive had a pair for years. AFAIK original caps. And I've always ran them on higher power amps. I mean they don't output like my kappas, but they get plenty loud. I've tried replacing them many times and gone back to them. I even had to troll ebay for nearly a year to replace a driver.

Nice looking speakers! The only Celestion speakers I've come across are a pair of Ditton 300's. Nice sounding little 3ways though. The crossovers were similar. A printed circuit board attached with screws. All the caps were electrolytic though. I replaced them all with poly film caps. One was 50uf!
I was almost resigned to having to use another electrolytic cap, but found a huge 50uf poly cap on close out at Partsconnexion for pennies on the dollar. It was huge though. It was as big around as a Campbell's condensed soup can and half as tall. I had to mount it to the inside of the cabinet.
I use them with a 12wpc EL84 PP tube amp I pulled from an old console and modified.

They are very close to the Polk Sda Crs design. I've had to disconnect one of the tweeters on each speaker, due to overkill on upper range. But has a passive in the back.20250516_213938.jpg

Did cleanup and recap on these UL6 beauties and am very happy. Running them via a sansui 4000. Anyone that comes across a set should snap them up and recap them.

Took about an hour. Really pleased with the results.
Hey, I just picked up a set of these at an estate sale for $40. Everything -looks- great. No damage and just a small scratch on one cabinent. The sound is kind of dull to me. Where did you source the new caps for these? I have never recapped and am looking to see if there are some better suited for these speakers than others but these speakers are not the most commonly found. Any tips/suggestions on sourcing the best capacitor would be appreciated.
