Are the cv d9 speakers 4 ohms or 8 ohms can't get a straight answer, I would like to pair them up to a g 9700 sansui, I heard you can't use the d9 with a g9700 can anybody help me out here I don't want to fry anything thanks

Hi. If you are just playing at moderate levels, you should be just fine. If you like to crank it up, then maybe not a good match.

You could run them off your Sansui. The G9700 is rated to handle 2 sets of 8 ohm speakers, that means it is rated to handle one set of 4 ohm speakers. Just don't hook any more speakers to it. My Technics specifies 8 ohm speakers and I ran my AT-15s on it for decades, often at eye vibrating levels.
They said 8 ohm only so people wouldn't go out and buy two sets of 4 ohm speakers and fry the receiver.
Of course that was when it was new. With 40 year old parts... you're taking a greater chance the harder you push it and 4 ohm speakers are a tougher duty than 8 ohm.
 
I think Cerwin rated many of their speakers as 4-8 ohm, to make them sound compatable with every receiver. It bypasses the explanation that you can always go higher with the load (speaker) ohms, and be just fine. You could measure the resistance of the speaker itself and get some idea, impedance is usually about 25% higher than resistance.
As for the comment above regarding hooking up two sets. He may be right, but not necessarily! Some receivers, when using both A and B outputs, internally connect them in series. Usually cheaper ones though. And a quick google of your Sansui, looks NICE!!!!!!! You can tell by hooking up speakers to just A, and switching on both A and B speakers. If they speakers go off, they're wired in series internally.
Looks like your Sansui packs quite a punch! At least 200 a side. And those Vegas are very efficient!! (huge vega fan here) You are going to have one amazing setup!!!!! It'l be loud no doubt!
 
The Cerwin-Vega D-9 speakers are "8 ohms nominal". What sets them apart from other 8-ohm speakers is that they have a much lower minimum impedance than most 8-ohm speakers do. Nominal impedance is simply an average. Impedance varies depending on the frequency. At times it can be much higher or lower than the nominal rating, and speakers that dip far below nominal can still present a difficult load to some amplifiers even if they have an 8-ohm nominal impedance.

Most 8-ohm speakers have a minimum impedance somewhere in the 5-6 ohms range. Here is a generic example of a speaker that is 8 ohms nominal:

In this example, the minimum impedance is around 5 ohms. The Cerwin-Vega D-9 speakers on the other hand have an impedance curve that dips below 4 ohms.

The problem is that too many people think of speaker impedance as a simplistic singular value, have no idea what an impedance curve is, and certainly don't take into account things like minimum impedance. The D-9, despite being 8-ohms nominal, can still present a difficult load to some amplifiers. It was easier for Cerwin-Vega to simply go with the flow and label it as "4-8" ohms, or in some cases even colloquially as 4-ohms rather than confuse people by going into more detail.

I've seen them called both.

I ran a set for years on a mid-grade AVR with the 4/8 impedance switch intentionally set to 8. Had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
