Changing it Up! Part Deux

Haider was talking about the earlier Campion. Mine is more like the Alabaster, as he stated.

I struck a deal on a pair of speakers today and would you believe it, they are floorstanders! Nuts no?

I should have the new speakers within a week or two...anyone care to guess what I bought.

Congrats! Hope they work out for you....and ahh, dude, you hip to the drill.....you know cats around here want pics....or it never happened!

Congrats Art on you new find! I can't wait for you to post some pictures and your thoughts on the new speakers and how they work with your system and room.

Gotta say that this thread has had wonderful participation from great members and I thank all of you for that. I am very excited to move forward. I know that my amp will need upgraded but it won't happen for more than a year. I will have to pay off these spendy speakers first. The Sonneteer sounds fabulous but it will not have enough power to take full advantage of the A6r's charms. Might go with valves next, who knows....

I'll chime in here that your impressions on these long term speakers will be interesting.

I love two ways on a built-in stand.
Did you listen to these somewhere beforehand?

Totally blind. Didn't give them a listen. Jumped on a great deal and prayed!

I've heard nothing but accolades for Spendors, both new and vintage. I recently read the What Hi-Fi review on the A6 and it sounds like you won't be disappointed.

I'll be interested in your take as well. We can talk and speculate all day and be arm chair quarter backs, and some of what we know and say is based on past experience that's genuine....but to keep it real, Art... the proof is always in the pudding. I know your speakers are quality....should give you great musical enjoyment for years..some cats retire with them.

There's a youtube clip of the A6 with a Sugden 50 watt amp and they seemed to be driving nicely, cant tell if the light bass response is due to the youtube clip or what, but that was the A6...the new A6r has a different bass mids driver so it may entirely different....so the 30 watts may drive them nicely....but that synergy thang....Wont know until the pudding.

You might have stumbled on some great synergy. I've read reviews about the A6r....one reviewer speaks highly of the modified SEAS driver and new crossovers and the speaker being an easy load to drive....another cat says its a laid back and polite speaker. In other words, a typical thing with different cats opinions. MikeT seems to love his A6's and I know his amp...its powerful and dynamic enough. So you thinking if you change amps...a LM tube integrated maybe in your future? Perfect match with your LN tube CDP!

So can't wait to see your impressions...if its the same speakers I think they are, new in the box,
You got a great deal! The hard part is letting those puppies run in, to open up. Once again man..congrats!

Congrats Art, will be looking forward to your impressions of these as time goes along, enjoy! Tim

Art,

As always, I'm sitting in the back of the room in a darken corner - and am watching where this all leads?, but here's hoping/praying that you've found your prefect speaker.

As I've learned throughout the years that no such item as " prefect " that exist in so much as what " we " are willing to view as the best compromises within a given budget - in the end as Byron has pointed out, it all comes down to Synergy.

So, in essence you've gained a smallish floor stander from one of the most renowned British companies to date with a proven track record behind them, so I can only believe in my heart that these are going to prove themselves more then worthwhile in the long run as far as musicality goes - but do take into account that sometime a prefect match might look odd on paper - but then in reality the Campion might prove to be an ideal match with the A6r's.

So enjoy - listen/learn/live and above all - contentment is what we should hope to obtain long term.

Be well as always - and know that not matter what?, big Brotha O, shall always have your back.

Salaam,
O_oh

Art,

I'm thinking the Campion may surprise. The new A6r are rated at 6 ohms so that might provide a little headroom.

I'll also tell you I have never even come close to needing the full headroom the M6i provides.

Anticipating your impressions. :music:

Floor standers; quite the paradigm shift. But, a nice change, those are beautiful speakers. Congrats!!

I'm guessing you fellas are right about the amp. You guys probably know me well enough to know that I probably wouldn't get the speakers if I didn't think my amp had a chance of driving the speakers adequately. Considering the lower volumes that I prefer and the small room I listen in, I believe it's going to sound excellent. I considered everything from the specs and size (height) to port location in making this choice. I also wanted a speaker where there is pride of ownership. Spendor speakers are still hand made in the U.K. and even though not cheap, still provide good value.

The proof is in the listening. Otherwise who's to say what matches or doesn't?.

And to my mind since these along with the SA-1s are from their more modern range - I'm more inclined to think it will offer a better sense of dynamics vs the older and slightly more refined/laid-back classic range as well.

Yet, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that in retrospect - this should certainly be one of those combinations that as Byron says one can retire with.

Hats off to thee Mi Brotha.

Enjoy them both for years and years to come.
