Changing it Up! Part Deux

Ha! I recently jumped on a deal with no audition on some similar speakers, though a bit down the ladder from yours (Epos Epic 5). I'm kind of astounded with what these are doing in my small room with a small tube amp behind them, but that's a different thread. :D

I'm going to read up on your Spendors and I'm curious to know what you think after you've been able to spend some time with them.

50% off on the Epics at MD was too good to pass up. Glad you went for them. I almost went for the Epic 2's just to try them out in my home. The Epics series were very good so I am pretty surprised at their early demise.

Yes indeedy - 3XLs and Tubes had me kicking myself for haven't slept on them which pursuing a pair of Birdseye Maple Response One SCs that only made it onto my stands twice before I sold them to a friend of mine here.

But, Art please try to hear them with those Crimson RM Music-Links that I mentioned to Dale awhile ago, and he brought in, as well as the NVA ( Nene Valley Audio ) LS-5 Speaker Cables from the UK - as both are much cheaper alternatives to said A23s while offering a more balanced sound to my ears with solid state based gear as did the LFD Spiroflex 1, that I used in tandem with the Campion and Nait 2 during their stay.

O_oh, and do keep in mind as I'm sure you're already aware of?, the guys at Sonneteer are talking about adding an on-board phono-stage on the Alabaster.

Process at last, that's the only lacking on it that caused me to go after the Campion to begin with - because in an ideal world having 50 - 70 watts per channel from an integrated goes a long ways towards proper speaker matching - but as I hear it........., is more then musical enough in most households with the exception of someone with a room the size of an air force hangar.

I'm happy that you're happy, and in the end that's what counts.

Go thee fourth and be as one with the cosmic universal sense of self-worth - you've done well in selecting with your heart on all counts, and I for one am proud of you for opening your mind/heart to change.

Salaam,
O_o scar

Yep an Alabaster with phono would be ideal.

I have considered the LFD's. I'll ask Gene next time I talk to him what he thinks as well. Meanwhile, ears that I trust emphatically tell me that I should try the A23's, so I must. As you know, O, Dale has some pretty darn good ears. Dale and Chris do things the right way, so Eugene HiFi is always my first choice.

Nice, nice , nice! A6r certainly has a different bass driver from mine for sure. Looks like it might not flex as much as the A6 which may help it go that half octave lower:scratch2:

Nice score, Art! I often find myself wanting to try another small floorstander along the lines of the Totem Arro or Kudos X2. Those Spendor's are beauties and should sound fantastic. I hope they suit your room.

I say if you are into trying out different components then go for it! If the disposable income is there then enjoy. You only live once. In this hobby we can buy used and sell for no or little loss. The vast majority of my purchases are in fact used. If I bought new then I'd probably be broke.

Looking forward to reading your impressions.

Didn't know that but my comment still stands. Used is (in my mind) usually the way to go, but you got a great deal, right? What is better than buying used is when you get a great deal on new.

Yes, got a great deal.

Used is great if you know how the last owner treated their gear, if not I prefer new.

Whoa! I came back from vacation and this thread made a sudden and unexpected turn! What fun!
Bravo for being ready to pounce on a good deal. Those A6Rs look great and I bet will sound even better. I look forward to seeing how they look when you get them home and set up.
Well done Art and congrats

When I bought my A9s used, Spendor transferred the warranty to me. All it took was an email.

I just sent the check today and will call the dealer and arrange the shipping. Sooner the better!!!

When they arrive and are set up I will start a new thread. I do wanna say that had I decided to stay with standmounts, it was going to be the Trenner & Friedl Art. Too many good words from folks who's tastes relative to audio that I trust.

I have recently discovered just how much difference each stand makes. Always knew that there were differences and I switched based on which stands sounded the best with whatever speaker I was using. However, over the last couple of weeks I have really been hearing my X12's at their best as I finally have them set up ideally in my little room. Correct stand, correct fill and correct placement...awesome result.

I believe I can make A6R work in my room...I'm excited to give them a try!

Be sure to run them in. You may find them harsh fresh out of the box. It'll take a while for those ClarityCaps in the xover and for the drivers to run in.
I recommend that, after your curiosity is satisfied, you put them facing each other, grille to grille, and leave your system on whenever you're not listening for, well, for at least a week.

That won't happen. My experience is that CD players only last so long and I'm not using one up like that. Besides the turntable that is the only source connected to the system. Not to mention I have never broken in speakers that way. I am far too curious for that. I want to hear the changes over time. My Dynaudio thread probably made that clear.
