Changing it Up! Part Deux

I'm sure you'll figure out what's best for you.
I got a blurb from the Spendor Yahoo group that HiFi Critic has reviewed the Spendor D7, but can't access the review yet.
I'll be accessing your review for the A6r.

That won't happen. My experience is that CD players only last so long and I'm not using one up like that. Besides the turntable that is the only source connected to the system. Not to mention I have never broken in speakers that way. I am far too curious for that. I want to hear the changes over time. My Dynaudio thread probably made that clear.

I'm with you on this process Art. My dealer recommended the "facing method" of break in but I couldn't stand it. I'm just too into listening and was too excited to be that methodical.

I've continued to tweak and expect to continue to do so:D

At what point did you feel your A6's were broken in?

Broken in at about 100 hours but continued to have smaller changes until 200 hours, then opened up, bass released, deeper, more relaxed/easily sustained.

I got the timbre reproduction right from the beginning but it's more subtle now, better, with nuances coming through on some albums I hadn't noticed before.

I've got them about 9 feet apart, slightly towed in and my listening chair about 11 feet back. I've been edging them outward to see if the equilateral golden ratio works in my room. They keep throwing a big open soundstage with effects outside of the boundaries of left and right.

I can listen to them a lower volumes and still be very pleased with the balance, detail and timbre. I've added a small 8" auto EQ Velodyne sub for Rock but I find it integrates well just underpinning frequencies below 40 Hz. I don't use it much for my well recorded jazz albums.

With the A6r going a half octave below mine under normal circumstances I would guess the sub would never come into play.

...and the worst part is that our UPS driver often doesn't come through the neighborhood until 6:00-7:00 p.m.:sigh:

Congrats Art,

Big bother is still watching. I'm happy for you, as no stand are required this time around.

Be thee well,
:thmbsp:_o scar

Thank you, Oscar. Jazz sounds incredible on these. Ahmad Jamal's piano is so dynamic and alive. The old cliche "like listening to your collection for the first time" really applies here.

Wait until you hear that string bass with a bow:music:
