Changing it Up! Part Deux

Alright Big Guy and ArtK! I know how you guys can get. So keep it on the real...

But yeah Big O....That moded SEAS tweeter which is also in MikeT's A6, with the additon of a new Mid/bass woofer and of course they had to redo the crossovers with adding the new midbass, so according to what I've read and what MikeT has stated, they go a tad deeper...at least on paper. I've never heard a SEAS driver that sounded boaring....infact they are very insiteful, and pair that with a Brit speaker known for great mids, and add the slightly deeper bass responce with a guy who's not a rocker as much as he use to be.....he may just have a winner in that speaker/amp combo.....who knows...the Campion may set it off! If not, Arts a LM man....so plan B is look good as well. Now if we can get my man to believe and get him one of those Triode Wire Labs power cords.....:yes

Brotha B,

Man, I'm just the sort that wishes all of us could get it right and merely spend whatever time we've left on the planet enjoying our lives as well as our systems, I'm more inclined to believe that if a system is matched properly and it's clicking?, then leave well enough along.

Because there will always be something with a little bit more air there - a tad more presence here, but at what cost I must ask?, in most cases we can merely change out a single component and it all falls apart - Synergy has always been the key ( as is my motto over on Audioasylum ) but we always tend to want more and more and more still, while second guessing ourselves and ears.

I'm at a point in life where I'm totally content with the sound I'm hearing at present - yet shall always be of sound mind as to try out various tweaks here and there - as I for one understand that cabling looms do in fact change the presentation of ones gear - it merely comes down to understanding the importance of knowing which flavor enhanced what the end user is seeking?, and those Triode Wire Labs AC Cords do it for me.

But as posted elsewhere - I'm seeing others opinions on the subject do said AC Cords, as I'm a believer - and nothing - nor anyone in this life can change my views on that.

Art, is someone to whom I see as a friend as well as an extension of self - so I can only hope/pray that he has resolved that final piece of the puzzle that will allow him to finally put the search or the illusion for perfection behind him once and for all............, as to my mind, it's the music collection that matters most.

Here's wishing us all the best in our selections as well as life in general - live it - love it and never forget to share a smile with others on the way to enlightenment.

Sharing is caring.

Peace,
:D_oh

Big Guy...I heard all of that! And I've read a few reviews on the A6 and a couple on the A6r. And you know what? I think I can hear that speaker...not really, but aside from a few Youtube clips I can sort of imagine what it sounds like live. Its probably a very transparent sound. And from listening to the TWL cable in my own system which is a very transparent system as well....the TWL became like a window, enhancing an already wonderful sound...hanging notes in mid air among a back drop of blackness.

But yeah...ima also a believer, if it aint broke, I aint trying to fix it. Contentment is a hard thing for some. Ima just glad I found her. My system is clicking! I got a feeling Arts is going to be clicking as well...just keeping it on the real.

Brotha B,

It's because in hindsight it's true. This should make for a wonderful pairing in the sense I was trying to recommend the Spendor SA-1s to begin with, as they produce a more linear sound compared to the older range - it should in fact make for an excellent sound in mind/theory. But then I also know that Art isn't into tweaks just for the sake of it, and I except that for what it is.

But I'm once again inclined to think that this system should take him to that point where any/everything else becomes moot - and we will see him talking more and more about the recordings as compared to the components. But once again that's all I can hope for anyone here.

Re-think what to listen to/for from ones music, not ones system/components.

Logic,
:yes:_o scar

Oh you guys know me. I'll still be messing around and making some changes. That's part of the fun of the hobby. Music is my passion and listening to different sounds in audio is my hobby. There are still some things I do to tweak my system. I will be upgrading my interconnects (both sets) and speaker cable. I eventually want to find a nice piece of furniture for support.

I just emptied 40% of the sand from my SolidSteel stands and got an incredible improvement in a stand that I wasn't all that fond of. Now it's my favorite stand for the X12's. To think I damn near sold them. That change along with putting my amp and cd player, each on a piece of birch ply, has made the best improvements in my system in ages. I've got this setup really singing. Time to move up to a speaker that will give me more scale...this is going to be fun!

Art,

And who said you weren't up for change?, obviously don't understand your passion - I knew deep down in my heart that a change was due, but merely didn't want to come across as being pushy ( which Byron has told me I can be at times ) so I'm very happy to see/hear that you're at least more open-minded to said ideals.

And in regards to speaker stands ( Byron pay attention ) as I've had mine custom made to fit my height as well as the dimensions of my Mini-Monitors to a " T " with the Sound Anchors 3 Post Monitor versions I think that it was a concept that having spent $770 on them, I'd have a speaker and stand that I'd view as here long term, so one never throws away said items, as they might never come around again, if their designers changes things up?. And besides - one can always use them with other speakers in a home theater system.

Growth is good.

Once again, I'm happy that you're grounded Art.

Much respect,
O

Generally I never get rid of stands that I like. I had never gotten the results I had expected from those stands so I had them for sale. I've had some Studio Tech and Atacama stands for years. The Atacama's are in the garage at present. Love 'em so they aren't going anywhere. I'm using the Skylan stands that I bought for my Harbeth's for the rear channels in the HT and the Studio Tech's for the fronts. Now that I am finally getting the results I expected from the SolidSteels they will be staying for the long haul. They are the best built and most stylish stands that I own.

Growth indeed.

There are times when we just don't know what we've until it's gone, as the old adage goes.

Hear/here.

In keeping with keeping it real....I can't do the change out my gear every so often thing any more. At this point in my life it just doesn't make sense any more. I've heard enough sounds from different systems over the many, many years to the point the curiosity for what I don't need has faded. My amp/preamp and speakers are settled. They fit my wallet, and they do my music library righteously. I want for no other amp, or speakers. My system is clicking and the synergy is tight....its very engaging..its very 3D....its very much reference quality high end sound...it moves me on the inside...why mess with that to settle curiosity of what something else does? I also believe my system..to hear it is proof you aint gotta spend upwards of $20k to get in the upper echelon of sound...all it takes is quality and synergy. Whats fun in my book is building the last system of upper echelon fidelity for far less loot and getting off the merry go round which can burn a cat out. Besides...my rig is very personal to me.

Whats not settled in my system is the TT. That will change down the road, but I'm still satisfied with what I have now. But to each their slice of happiness...if you're cool with the switcher-roo thing, well what can I say....nodda doggone thing....lots of cats make that choice.

But this is your house and about your new speakers...at this point im just following you. I want to see where you're headed as most systems are unique and I like that...the different combinations of kits and how one likes or not like what its doing and if the synergy is there or not. I'm genuinely interested in the Spendor/Campion kit and the cables you pick as much has been debated about your amp. And also...you know Big Brother is watching...that be Oscar.

Over the last year or year and a half I would say that your system has changed about as much or more than mine (think cables, speakers, amps and so on). No shame in enjoying different sounds or upgrading.

Time for a first image...

Naw not really. I left the hobby for some years and moved to STL from Carolina with no gear at all. The first day I was here, I walked into a pawn shop and walked out with all that Rotel gear for $300. The idea was to use that while I built my last system. That's what you've been seeing me do...building my last system one or two pieces at a time. I've got interconnects, speaker cables, a few power cords, new TT and phono amp to go and im done. Give me about a year and I'm off the merry go round. After that, its tubes and vinyl and a few CD's.

And you're right Bro......no shame in one doing what they enjoy. Besides, cats who change gear ever so often can give a consumer perspective of gear I may never hear. I still like reading about it.

Yes, I'm watching - and always shall be.

As mentioned on countless occasions I'm not here as a means of trying to be anyone's mentor nor guru in so much as the voice of reason. I've sold and purchased gear many of us will never be able to afford or even should for that matter - as the laws of diminishing returns is true - said price points reside between $1.000 - $5.000 components which is where the magic starts, afterwards it merely becomes more about tiny nuances here and there - but at what cost vs what one might already have in home - that merely needs to be voiced accordingly with said cables - cords and isolation devices/platforms - as each/every item introduced to a system should and does alter its relationship with the musical notes as they pass through it.

It's merely a matter of understanding which voice speaks to ones needs?. I've set here and counting the funds and would say that after 4 years and roughly $18.000 and some change later - I've arrived at a point where few have dared to venture - it's called the end.

Granted I'd have loved to have owned DeVore Gibbon 3XLs, as I consider them reference quality based Monitors that I'd have personally had buried beside me upon entering the great beyond - problem is I initially heard them through Naim separates and didn't feel they merited the extra $1.700 , but having heard them through Shindo Labs gear had become a rude awakening to say the least - but truth be told as I'm sitting here at this very second knowing that in my heart/mind what I hear is close enough to call it quits.

Once again, this is why I preach in the manner that I do, because I want others to understand through said understanding of ones system and through various tweaks - one can alter what they've in house in such a manner it would leave some costly Un-tweaked mix/matched components/systems wanting.

But I'm getting away from the matter at hand, so let's get back to our sponsor and await his verdict on his newfound pleasure - take it away Art.

And........., remember I'm always watching/reading these post/articles - so be warned.

Big Brotha cares.

:nono:

3xl's and tubes...very good indeed, Oscar!

Next I will need to get cables that match the quality of the system. If I don't stick with Chord then I will try the Auditorium 23 cables.

If I do wind up needing more power, though I joke about tubes, I would probably look at a bigger Sonneteer or LFD amp.

For now I believe the Spendor's will quench the thirst for awhile.

Totally blind. Didn't give them a listen. Jumped on a great deal and prayed!

Ha! I recently jumped on a deal with no audition on some similar speakers, though a bit down the ladder from yours (Epos Epic 5). I'm kind of astounded with what these are doing in my small room with a small tube amp behind them, but that's a different thread. :D

I'm going to read up on your Spendors and I'm curious to know what you think after you've been able to spend some time with them.

Yes indeedy - 3XLs and Tubes had me kicking myself for haven't slept on them which pursuing a pair of Birdseye Maple Response One SCs that only made it onto my stands twice before I sold them to a friend of mine here.

But, Art please try to hear them with those Crimson RM Music-Links that I mentioned to Dale awhile ago, and he brought in, as well as the NVA ( Nene Valley Audio ) LS-5 Speaker Cables from the UK - as both are much cheaper alternatives to said A23s while offering a more balanced sound to my ears with solid state based gear as did the LFD Spiroflex 1, that I used in tandem with the Campion and Nait 2 during their stay.

O_oh, and do keep in mind as I'm sure you're already aware of?, the guys at Sonneteer are talking about adding an on-board phono-stage on the Alabaster.

Process at last, that's the only lacking on it that caused me to go after the Campion to begin with - because in an ideal world having 50 - 70 watts per channel from an integrated goes a long ways towards proper speaker matching - but as I hear it........., is more then musical enough in most households with the exception of someone with a room the size of an air force hangar.

I'm happy that you're happy, and in the end that's what counts.

Go thee fourth and be as one with the cosmic universal sense of self-worth - you've done well in selecting with your heart on all counts, and I for one am proud of you for opening your mind/heart to change.

Salaam,
