Cheap Chinese 6P3P kit

Hi Sled, It's almost 4 months...I think I should send you another, by hybrid shipping. If you receive you Xmax gift a few days later, you can send to other customers. Does that sounds OK for you?

well I have walked away from the preamp. There is not much information about it? I dont have any photos of the lay out.And it hums like no other. Lots of work with no reward.I have tried my hardest to work through all the problems but i'm giving up?? Its just a paper weight at this point. If someone has a layout photo I would really like to see it. Looking back this complete experience has been a disaster . It was said earlier in the posts about theses kits "you get what you pay for" I'm starting to think that statement maybe true. Oh well , Preamp kit =$158. Shipping = 10 weeks. Wasting 20 hours = priceless.

I hope others have a better outcome than I did

I bought one of these super cheap amp kits, I am in China so they are even cheaper for me. My friend put it together and the power transformer burned up on first ignition. Don't know if it was his fault of the transformers fault. I just didn't mess with it after that. I still have it......sitting in my closet. For the price you can't go too wrong but it needs to function :P

I'm not bitter just wish it was like the kits I built years ago.. I bought a kit for a company called Mark IV. It was a SS power amp, just the boards with no power supply. But the kit was well thought out. The instructions were GREAT and it had drawing and parts lists to go with it. It was not Heathkit, or Dynaco quality but I still have it and its still works even after burning it up a few times from playing the crap out of it. This kit is a real let down!!

Oh and you could call Mark IV and they would walk you though any problems, this was 22 years ago before the internet was really going. I'm still waiting to here from Siliconray about a parts layout picture or any other help. But like I said I'm still waiting

Not backing Siliconray..

BUT. a tubed preamp is one of the most difficult tubed pieces to build hum free.

After first built quite often they will make noises you don't want, especially with
someones first build experience or limited experience with grounding and building.

General areas to look for noises are ground circuit(every ground point) an heater
supply circuits. But also the B+ and how well it is filtered.

Also these amps and preamps are more DIY then a "kit" unit, as back in the day
and the circuit boards used where these are point to point, your more apt for it
to work first time with circuit board for inexperienced builders then point to point
where the builder decides the layout and how to wire it.

Buy anyway preamps and phono preamps are going to be the toughest for build
a quiet piece, it's even possible it could make noises for the experienced builder
who then has to go back over everything and maybe move stuff around.

Point being I'd expect some trouble shooting, and I'd start at the grounds, I like
to make a ground buss out of 14ga solid strand copper wall wiring, put all power
supply stuff at 1 end and signal at the other. Just for a possible suggestion..

ok can I send you some pictures of what I have done and you can see what I'm dealing with. I understand the point to point wiring can take a lot of work to get it correct!! I kind of wish I would have bought a better kit with better customer service and detailed instruction instead of a long wait and a sheet of paper with a schematic printed on it. The hours spent on this project are so many I have lost count. Siliconray has made a few tries to clear his name. But here we go again, no returned chats, or messages. No pictures, No layout drawings. But the lack of followup says it all. IMHO

Didn't notice the new post..

Just put any and all pic's here, that way maybe others can chime in and or gain info as well.

Hokey Smokes Bullwinkle!! The PreAmp Kit just arrived....And, it's Intact and as Advertised...Now, I have my Work cut out for me to Build this Thing from just the Schematic...In Chinese...
No Problem...
The Fun Part will be when the Remote Motorized Alps w/Input Selector that I'll be using in This gets here...I'll keep you Guys Posted....

Wow..I can take another breath now. An DIYaudio member already finished it with great result:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/sili...e/200120-6j4-6p6-hifi-preamplifier-kit-2.html

You can discuss with him or with me or each other. I will stay here until everybody finish the project

We are very busy in developing new products. The first amp SA-22 EL34 Tube Amp was already released. It's free air shipping for forum members as new product promotion, great deal. More nice amps is coming soon.

That's a cute little critter Ray. I still have my two kits to start, but have to get further along with my other project(actually two) before I can begin your kits. :tears:

Do you have a charge for having the kit put together in your place, like you do on the others? You know, just in case.........:)

Hi John, please look at these pictures for reference. You don't have this preamp kit as I remember. You have a 6P3P and a EL34 SE, right? Hope to see them soon. I believe it's just a piece of cake for you to assembly those simple kits:thmbsp:

In order to take these photos we have to build a new preamp..that's why it's delayed. It's not easy to build preamp without hum, be patient, It's a good exercise.

Actually I was referring to the "SA-22 EL34 Tube Amp kit". If I have trouble, I may need to order a completed unit for my grandson's birthday. That Hexagon speaker project is taking much longer than I anticipated.

This thread has been a sort of a roller coaster ride.
Still hoping to see a couple pics of finished products + opinions.
Just saying

I'm Sniffing Solder Smoke as we Speak...
Building this brings me back to my Balsa Airplane Days....A box of Balsa Strips and Tissue Paper, with a Picture of what the Airplane was supposed to Look Like if you Figured it out Right...

Sweet Mother of Music....The PreAmp is Singing...On the First Shot. Right now it's making the Sirius Radio sound Good, and that's no easy Feat. And, it's Dead Quiet as I dare go up to only 1:00.
