Last year I saw a pair of them at a local Goodwill store with a price tag of $40.00 and a SOLD tag as well. I was an hour late according to the guy that got them.

811b is basically a 3/4 scale version of the 511b. 511b is about 24" wide and the 811b is about 18" wide at the horn exit flare. Hard to tell the difference sometimes just from a photo.

When the seller says that they will light up a room, I can attest to that: We used to use four (similar) Valencias to host dances at my high school, and with a Sansui receiver they filled up the whole big auditorium with sound. We had to shout just to be heard.

I saw that, too. I wondered at the time if they were nicely done vintage DIY or what, the tan Altec horns and vintage grill cloth made it look old, but such a small cabinet. I've looked at the threads I can remeber viewing in the last couple of days and come up blank.

The difference between those and Altec's is they don't use Altec woofers. The horns are Altec 811 and the horn drivers are probably Altec 806

Exactly. Those smaller Seeburgs use a Utah extended range 12 inch speaker that is a really good sounding driver and meets the horn pretty seamlessly. The won;t go nearly as low as the DDS1 woofers, but they do everything else so much better that the speaker overall has a smoother, more balanced signature.

I heard a set go amazingly loud powered by a tube Fisher 500. Sounded great. They are BIG!
