Chicago Area AK Get Together Redux

As of this moment, head count is still at 25 and the current spreadsheet is below.

As only a handful of emails have dribbled in, driving directions to Robie's place will be sent out via PM (AK Private Message) this coming Thursday evening, so please check your message inbox at that time. [If you don't receive an auto alert message, then click on User CP at the top menu bar and navigate to Private Messages.]

If I've missed anyone or there's any last minute interest, then let me know ASAP.

Anyone coming through Chicago that can offer cfoster a ride to the event should send him a PM and coordinate time / place / etc.

Thanx!

Four days and counting.
Head count = 28.

We just received word from prisoner who let us know he had a business engagement come up which he needs to attend this Saturday and therefore regrets he won't be able to attend. We hope to see him next time in either out in Oregon or maybe at the theatre.

I also just heard from cw_82 who will bring gear and a guest and from Paicase who emailed me that his wife, a UW music professor, will be accompanying him from Wisconsin.

Again, if you haven't emailed me at sleddogman51 [at] gmail.com, then be sure to check your PM here on Thursday evening for driving directions to Robie's place.

Below is the latest update to the spreadsheet.

Hope to see you all there, eh? :thmbsp:

As usual, Snade beat me to the punch (see previous post).

Kudos to Ken (Sleddogman) for his comprehensive and confident consistency, creativity, counsel, continuity, communications and camaraderie. Ditto for Snade. (Hope that covers the letter "C." I'll handle the other 25 letters of the alphabet at the event.)

I am very much looking forward to meeting "all y'all."

We are still hoping to find a ride back to the City for one attendee to the Lakeview neighborhood.

Thanx, but you forgot coo-coo and crazy... :D

I just made the offer to him via PM, so we may arrive a bit late depending on traffic.

Thanks to Bob and Collette for offering their home and Sleddogman for helping to organize this great event!

It was really great meeting fellow AK'ers. We heard some great tube gear and listened to some really good music.

Thanks again!

Great group of guys........enjoyed every minute. I wish I could have stayed a little longer. Thanks for making my guest and I feel welcome. I look forward to another event.

My thanks as well to Bob and Collette for allowing such a motley crew, [the guys that is] into their home. Thanks to Ken for his organizational skills and to everyone who brought food and gear. Carol and I had a great time. I look forward to seeing you all again.

I met some great people, heard some really cool gear and great music today! It was a wonderful time! Thanks to everyone that made this happen!

Thank you all for making a newbie such as myself feel so welcome. I heard a lot of great gear that I'd never be able to hear otherwise. You are all a great bunch of people. Thanks for making this all happen, and a special thanks to Bob and Collette for the use of their home (and electricity...).

-John (and Sabah).

Covered, got him back to his intended destination, the CTA....

Bob and Collette, you outdid yourselves!!! It was a priviledge and pleasure to attend today. Thank you for opening your home to us (again!).

It was an eye opening surprise to hear what the venerable vacuum tube was able to accomplish....

Maybe now I have to find a tube tester......:D

I just want to say to a couple people, thanks for the invite, but I couldn't make it. Can someone tell us in a bit more detail, what equipment you heard, and music played? Maybe it's an idea for another thread.

Oh well.:(

Words can not express how wonderful today was. Meeting the best bunch of people as well as some of their prized possessions was a truly wonderful experience. I think we all learned something, I know I did, not to mention a new appreciation for some pieces of equipment that I had never given a second look.

A very special thanks to Bob and Ken and their lovely wives for organizing this event and us. I also need to thank Mark for the ride to the EL. I really hope we can get together as often as possible. It's really good therapy.

What a great evening! And a fabulous turnout!

Always neat to be able to actually meet and put a face to a well-known AK moniker. The food and drinks were great, lots of gear to listen to, and I left with a piece of paper covered with the names of albums I need to get.

Thanks a bunch to Bob and Collette for opening their home to the mob! She's a saint for putting up with us.

Thanks again, Bob, I had a terrific time!

Clay

Sounds like a good time was had by all.
I hope to make the next get together.
Anyone take pics??
List of tunes that were listened to??

Thanks to everyone who participated and particularly those of you that worked so hard to pull off this event. I really had the easy part, just walking around enjoying the stuff everyone brought.

Particular thanks to Sleddogman, who really outdid himself in the communications and planning as well as doing all the grunt work schlepping equipment around and keeping different equipment in rotation in the basement. His Carver tube CD player is very analog sounding and his PAS 4 was very nice. Those KLH17s are particularly worth a mention IMO.

I also remember a pair of Hereseys (SWL3600) and CW_82's Fortes sounding better than I remember Klipsch sounding.

Fisherdude kept things jumping in the living room and wowed us with his Botlehead/Stereo 70 driving some A-25s. They were driving Ekmanning's A-25s. Y'all wouldn't have believed how good the A-25s from the '70s sounded with Fisherdude's modded Dyna, Bottlehead Foreplay pre and my lowly RS CD-3400 portable. With minimal setup in a very live sounding living room we were hearing amazing bass and glorious mids.

I didn't get to hear Ekmanning's Eico integrated and Pioneer TT as much as I wanted.

Snade's Allison Eights sounded huge despite the less than optimal setup. Not sure what was driving them the two times I heard them. Thanks to Snade for keeping us on course and his counsel.

CW_82 amazed us with his remote controlled Eastern Electric integrated with 13w (that sounded much more like 14w). He could change amp modes remotely.

Cfranz had 4 different tube amps some of which unfortunately spontaneously combusted . I remember being particularly impressed with a little tiny kit integrated I'd love to know more about.

Powerman carried the JBL banner very well with some 110 lb., JBL floorstanders that started us off as well as some mini monitors I never got a chance to hear. Thanks to Dave for getting things started.

Johnvf brought an amazing tube Fisher tuner, pristine stock Stereo 70 that was very nice with A-25s. Can't remember his preamp though.

Cubdog and Carol brought another set of A-25s and perhaps some other gear. I'm looking forward to a trip to Oregon, Illinois for a future event. A fun couple to be around.

It was great meeting Cfoster finally and I also look forward to hearing audio at the Theater he manages.

I enjoyed rocking the utility room (man cave) with the MA230 and Genesis Model 10s, CD-3400 and Rotel RP-1000 TT despite the obvious room limitations. We also had my Spendors SA2s going there too. Surprisingly, the mancave was a fairly popular place despite its spartan decor.

Kenhappen2u (and better half), Zekeman, Paircase and wife, Clydeselsor, Markthefixer and Rgrjt8 provided additional insight, camaraderie and observations and I enjoyed their attendance. The food was fantastic. If I forgot to mention you and/or your equipment, I apologize. Thanks to all for attending and making it a great day.

2 Clydes and a Clay in one place at one time?

After yesterday, I am convinced that tubes are my destination. I just haven't gotten there yet.

A few photos from the party.

The turnout was more than double last year (30 + people).

Great job Bob, it was a ton of fun. Snade

Fisherdude (red shirt) tells a story about how he landed some great gear (also in photo are AK members - Zekeman, Ekmanning5, KenHappen2u).

EKManning's Eico tube amp and Dynaco A-25s, this sounded nice.

Guys were asked to bring efficient speakers to work with tube amps, and here are JBL's and Klipsch speakers, the silver tube amp in the middle is a Eastern Electric integrated tube amp.

Fisherdude tube gear

This was a very sweet sounding $150 tube amp kit (owned by Cfranz) that got a lot of buzz at the party.

Great time, Snade
