Christmas Music, What are you playing?

Cherish The Ladies - "On Christmas Night" - Celtic carols so well sung and recorded that you'll listen to this on July 4th. - a must have even if the only Irish in you is Bushmills.....

Jimmy Buffet - "Christmas Island" - in the tropics, Christmas is a beach.

Enjoying the "Holiday Oasis" channel on Comcast's Rhapsody service. Smooth and soulful Christmas jazz...............now where's the eggnog......

I'm listening to Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas that Acoustic Sounds released on 2 45 RPM discs last year. At $50, it was hard to shell out for but I couldn't find a really good copy of the original.

For something different....

Try Beth and Barry Hall's "A Feast of Songs" - Holiday Music from the Middle Ages...

Interesting story actually. Husband and wife team, playing the following instruments:

voice, vielle, lute, dulcimer, viola, violin, mandolin, guitar, sitgar, flute, recorders, French horn, herald trumpet, doumbek, tar, bodhrán, tabor, tambourine, cymbals, bells, African drums, and other percussion instruments.

Originally they did these songs a couple at a time for Christmas greetings for their friends. Eventually they put them together in an album.

Samples and other info is here

The usual disclaimers apply....

Sarah McLachlan - Wintersong (CD)
Luciano Pavarotti - O Holy Night - Kurt Herbert Adler, conductor; National Philharmonic, with the Wandsworth Boys Choir and London Voices (LP)

I have several lp's pulled but today I listen to Luther Vandross, this is Christmas and Christina Aguilera, My kind of Christmas.

Christmas, The Big 80's.

It has my favorite Christmas pop song on it. Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses.

I completely agree about "Christmas Wrapping"
Chis Isaac put out a Chrismas CD a few years ago that is quite good (get the Australian version with extra songs!)
Westwood One put out two Christmas CD's over a decade ago, very rare, but with excellent tracks...one even has a Beatles as well as a PeeWee Herman Christmas greeting!
Here's a great streaming radio station for Christmas music:

One of the quieter, calmer Christmas recordings I have is The Gift by Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel---the tagline is "Acoustic Offerings for the Holiday Season."

"Christ the Messiah" and "All is Well" by Michael W. Smith, both modern classics. his 'Christmas' album a few years ago is awesome.
and "2000 Decembers" by Joy Williams, which should be played by EVERY radio station on earth.

King Crimson
Jethro Tull
Allman Brothers

Sorry, just plain sick and tired of generally badly recorded Christmas Music, the new Manheim Steamroller album not withstanding. Good recordings of Christmas music died with Tennessee Ernie Ford.

Oh Yeah, Michael has some great music for the Christmas season. He is playing tomorrow night near Seattle and has a 65 piece Orchestra with him, plus the Katinas. Wish we could go:tears:
