Christmas Music, What are you playing?

The Slim Whitman Christmas Album-LP
Diana Krall-Christmas Songs-green vinyl
Rockin' Christmas The 50's-Rhino vinyl
Rockin' Christmas The 60's-Rhino vinyl
Cool Yule-Rhino vinyl
Elvis Presley-If Every Day Was Like Christmas-pop-up Graceland CD
I'll be Home On Christmas Day (alternate take) is my hands-down fave Xmas song.

These were just tonight.

I cannot stand Christmas music. I think it's because it's piped into all of the department stored from late October till mid January. That, and every year the new flavor of the month redoes the same 10 tired songs again so that we can hear them while we're shopping in JCPenney. GRRRR!!

Who's got the big Christmas album this year? Carrie Underwood or Rob Thomas?

Anyhow, you guys can all go on enjoying your Christmas music just keep it away from me..Bah humbug!

Actually, I love this time of year, just not the soundtrack.

Kevin Gibbs Trio

I am listening to a cassette that I picked up a couple of years ago and just listened to for the first time Friday. It turns out to be one of the best Christmas albums I have heard in a long time, really nice jazz arrangements of a few of the Christmas chestnuts. Recommended! :thmbsp:

Kevin Gibbs Trio, "Christmas Presence", Concord CJ-432-C, (cassette)

Kevin Gibbs, piano, synthesizer
Paul Delnero, bass
Matthew Gordy, drums

NONE! They were squawking about Christmas in the beginning of November this year. To me it has become yet another corporate profit scheme being shoved down in our throats and out our wallets. I'm all for the traditions and even the music when it is appropriate. When would that be you ask? I would say maybe the week of the holiday. Thats pretty fair. Sorry all the traffic madness and crazy people flooding the stores to spoil their kids with the latest $500 MUST HAVE video game or whatever is a drag. Every year I hear of another beating in a Wal-Mart over some freaking GIFT!!! I get absolutely no feeling of warmth out of that at all. As it has grown I have grown more and more in dread of the whole year from Thanksgiving to New Years Day.

"Swingle Bells", lp, MMG 1124, makes me think 'Your soft rock, wxxx' :) . Still, some nice cuts.

"Christmas with The Trapp Family Singers', volume one and two, lp, Decca, DL9553 and DL9689, very nice.

'It's a Spike Jones Christmas', cd, Rhino, one of my all time favorites and highly rec'd.

'Red Hot Christmas Blues', Mark Baldwin, cd, Unison V20020. When I picked this up at an after Christmas clearance sale years ago I figured it was just another cheap knockoff type, but it's got some great stuff on it.

Plus another I'm guessing 2 million others :). I'll post more if I remember them.

Barbra Streisand - A Christmas Album
Columbia KCS 9557 LP, 1967

Elvis, Christmas. Favorite song. It's Christmas time.
Favorite line in song
Hang up your pretty stockings
Turn down the light.
Santa Clause is coming
Down your chimney tonight.

Christmas, The Big 80's.

It has my favorite Christmas pop song on it. Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses.

Mine too Duff.

BTW, I heard a story last year on NPR about the guitarist from the Waitresses who was attempting to recover his old Vox guitar. Required flying to France as I recall. He mentions playing on that song.

Merry Xmas.

Had a nice evening last night playing some great music.

"Christmas with Gisele", lp, VIK LX-1099, as mentioned elsewhere it's a fantastic lp.

"Christmas Wishes from Lawrence Welk", lp, Coral CRL 57093, one of the things I'm really enjoying as I get older is to hear 'new' music from folks I thought were 'dusty oldies' :) . Mr Welk is one of them, quality through and through. Champagne bubbles!

"Angel Records Christmas Sampler", cd, from 1993 iirc, one of my perennial favorites. I'll have to get the #.
