College Football 2026

This week a few interesting games....
Houston at Tex Tech.......I still think TT is gonna grab this one
SMU at Louisville.....I think Louisville is a poser....
LSU at Ole Miss.....this is gonna be an ugly game....lots of butthurt folks....
 
College Game Day will be at Ole Miss that morning.

I'm going to be monitoring several games Saturday with potential impacts later in the season.

North Carolina vs Clemson; has NC turned the corner to be a factor in the ACC? A win would pretty much put Clemson in a coffin

Florida vs Auburn; both are 2-0, maybe after Saturday one of these will make the top 25?

11 BYU vs Colorado St; could be a trap game (away) for BYU

New Mexico vs 18 Oklahoma; NM has been putting up some impressive numbers on offense - OU better be careful

Virginia Tech vs Maryland; the line is only VT -3 - could be a slobber knocker

Bring on the chaos!
 
Oh I definitely want to see VT vs Maryland.

James Franklin's first game as a Hokie vs a Big 10 opponent.

I like Ethan Grunkemeyer. I think he's a great quarterback. I hear they have a weak running game though and their defense is vulnerable.

I saw they had a 1st and goal on the one yard line and ended up with a field goal. Sounds like PSU last week vs Temple.
 
FBS Oversight Committee released a statement last night (Sept 16) regarding the controversial finish to the Western Michigan vs Michigan game

Will this taint Michigan's resume at the end of the season if they are on the bubble for the CFP?

[I personally have Michigan 1-1 before Saturday]

Well technically, they won the game. Will people making the decisions take it into account, I am almost positive.
Not to sound like the "get off my grass" guy, back when instant replay wasn't around, the end of the game was the end of the game. No looking back, no changing calls. No second guessing the officials.

Well the same kind of goes for Western Michigan. All they had to do was be prepared to swat the ball down and not let about the only Michigan player who could have realistically caught the pass open in the end zone. Even with the extra chance they basically had the game in the bag but had a defensive lapse and allowed the one in a million catch to even happen.

But they definitely got ripped-off. What a crappy way to lose after dominating Michigan the entire game.

not disagreeing with anybody, I'm just looking at what Erik mentioned if it will taint Michigans chances at a playoff if they are a bubble team. I think the committee or however they decide who plays in the playoffs can't discount the entire game.
 
The one thing that helps Michigan though is they did manage to bounce back the following week against #11 Oklahoma.

It makes you wonder if Western Michigan is better than everyone thought they were or Michigan was in some kind of funk to start the season?

I think it might be a little of both.
 
Iowa has Northern Iowa this week, then Michigan , OSU , and Washington , that 3 game stretch should show who # 18 Iowa is this year.
 
Those MAC schools can surprise you sometimes. I remember back in the late 1990s I worked in Toledo, OH and the Rockets went to Happy Valley and beat Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions in a major upset. The next day when I went to work, my "buddies" had plastered the front page of the Toledo Blade all over the walls of my office with the headlines of how the Toledo Rockets had knocked off the Big 10 giant on their home field in front of 100,000+ fans. It was pretty-embarrassing and I know JoPa wasn't too happy about it either.

Any given Saturday , easy to look past those small schools and get caught with your pants down.
 
One thing's for sure. No matter what happens to Penn State this year the football program will be # 1 in one category next season.

Anyone know what that will be?
 
3 day schedule!

One game tonight with ACC implications:
Syracuse vs Pitt

The ACC could be a contentious contest as the season progresses.

Everyone talks like Miami is going to walk in the CFP. Their strength of schedule is only ranked at #45, so they may take the top spot in the ACC, but the conference championship could be a wake up.

Would be a shame, imo, if the CFP expands to 24 teams (talks are going to start now) which may dilute or get rid of conference championship impacts.

Time will tell if beating OU helps them..
The sooners are struggling offensively, and they don't have a friendly schedule..
 
So no one knows what category PSU will be ranked #1 next year even if they lose every remaining game on their schedule this year? :wtf:

Here's a hint. This year PSU started the season ranked #2 in the nation in this category.

Another Big 10 school is ranked #1.
