College Football 2026

Is Oregon a fraud this year? So much hype, but that first game against Boise St showed some cracks and flaws. Then this upset by OSU.

The day ain't over, yet - there could be some more chaos still to come!
Yeah I think they are. VERY IMPRESSED with OSU.
Oklahoma took it hard on the chin.
I am loving the Kentucky game!!
I thought Penn State was ranked too high to start with. And I am a Penn State fan. Too much new to be really good.
ODU didn't cover...killed my bet.

UNLV is overrated as well. They were hyped to take the Mountain West and they are getting wiped by North Texas in the 4th.

And Bama woke up....
Yeah, I figured that would be too much to ask of Kentucky.

Time to shift focus to the next set of games coming up.

[edit]

Actually, I gotta do a Lee Corso on myself - not so fast!

Memphis vs Boise St on the USA network is one to watch in the 4th!

WTH...Navy getting their butt stomped....and for some reason here ABC channel is all messed up all day!

I think PSU was ranked right about where they should have been. Even if they would have returned with the remnants of last year's team with Terry Smith as their coach.

They basically beat the eventual national champion except for an "immaculate reception" type loss in the last seconds of the game and then ran the table and beat Clemson in their bowl game to salvage their disappointing season under James Franklin. Now they are re-manufactured with 24 of Matt Campbell's transfer players and some of the best remaining PSU players from last year that didn't opt to go to VT with James Franklin. That's definitely a recipe for a top 25 team to start the season and I think they are showing that they just might end up in the mix for a playoff spot when it's all said and done.

We'll find out I guess but so far so good. They have a very favorable schedule to allow them to get their act together by the time it really starts to get tough. I look for them to improve every week. They are going to have to if they want to still be relevent at the end of the season.

Texas should be #1 next week. Arch Manning is awesome! What a gamer. It looked like their goose was cooked but the Longhorns never gave up.

Rough day for the Service Academies :(

But, North Dakota State's win over AF puts them atop the Mountain West! They are my 'dark horse'.

That Iowa St vs Iowa was a lot closer than I thought - good game!

Navy took an azz whoopin....and Army got taken on a late play....
Texas pulled on out of the fire.
UL actually made somewhat of a showing against USC....so I can't really complain.

AP Top 25 for Week 3 is already out.

Oregon and Oklahoma dropped like stones, Michigan has popped back up, other than that it's a shuffling of the same teams going up or down.

[edit] Interesting that Washington dropped out from 19 - they won against Utah St, but only by 2 pts - so I guess an ugly win is bad thing.

I read yesterday, I think it was about Saban discussing how teams should be ranked,
It sounded like a combination of the BCS and the current playoff system..

But there are ugly wins, and there are good losses..

The cupcake games shouldn't be a factor in rankings, IMHO..
They should be preseason scrimmages, but what defines a cupcake.?
Oklahoma State(cupcake.?) I wonder how many bet on them to win against the Ducks.. That was a good win btw..

I heard Saban's take on this during Game Day Saturday morning - he makes a lot of sense.

The AP poll has been used a long time, but until we get to the first CFP rankings in Week 10, we make do with the AP and Coaches Polls.

They do seem a bit wonky. Things that make you go hmmm....

The rankings should come as no surprise. Exactly as most people thought they would be although I think Oregon is still receiving a little more respect than they deserve at this point.
