Colored vinyl?

My mother had a few RCA albums of RCA 45’s that she played on her RCA 45 changer/AM radio combo unit. Blue w/blue label, red and green records are what I remember. I heard Elvis - Don’t Be Cruel for the first time on the radio in that thing. Changed my life that did. Three or four I was.

That is so cool. I never even knew they made colored vinyl before the 70s.
But that's probably because I first encountered them in the 70s.

Actually, they were more vivid red-pink, commonly referred to as "cerise".
Splitting hairs I know, but "orange" really doesn't do these glowing jewels justice.
Presumably the author of that piece has never seen one in person.
They are admittedly very difficult to photograph.

I own the first of the R&B series pressings. Arthur Crudup's Katie Mae.
Like many of the early 45's, it was a reissue of earlier sides originally issued on 78.
 
I have a few colored discs, my pink fairies lp is the craziest-looking mixture of pink hues. Back in my military days, I had a uv fluorescent fixture above my elac 50H. A lot of normally black discs really came alive under that thing! I attributed that to recycled vinyl in the batch mixtures, or possible impurities in the raw stock. Worst sounding were any original deep purple pressings on tetragrammaton labels. They looked awesome, but sounded like shiite, ridiculous amount of noise. Perhaps floor-sweeping off the master-cutting room floor? The tapes back then of same were clean, though. I resisted the urge to make bowls out of them in the oven over a stainless steel bowl. (Do this with crap vinyl, sell at humane society thrift store I volunteer at for up to $4 a pop!)
 
I bought Nora Jones/Daybreaks album when it came out and my copy was transparent yellow/gold and it sounded like it had been dragged behind a gravel truck, exchanged for another copy on black vinyl and it sounds great. Bought a used copy of Heart/Magazine that was a ltd edition picture disc and it sounds great. I don't seek out coloured vinyl or pic discs because I prefer the black ones and in my old age it's easier for me to tell the condition of the record if it's stamped on black.
 
Lots of older Fantasy Records - Brubeck et. al. on red vinyl, and some blue. Joe Satriani's Surfing with the alien on a translucent pale green. Beatles on white vinyl. Probably a few others I can't remember off the top of my head. You got me thinking. I'll try to post a few photos when I get a chance.
 
Lol, yes, it just might very well be with a name “Rolling Papers”! My description would be a frosted light green. I’m sure the women on this board would describe it very differently. It is a double 45 album. My wife and I really like it, and it sounds great! !

Not everyone knows the name of the colors outside of the usual primary/secondary ones, or has the proper color vision to tell the odd ones apart. Perhaps RCA meant for the color to be orange, but couldn't quite manage it with whatever method they used to produce colored vinyl at the time. :dunno: For the heck of it, here's a larger version of the associated photo from that page, which looks reddish-orange to my eyes from my screen:
