They Live is the king of the B movies and I loved it but it aint no Oscar film!
I liked the one right after that better. When he gets back to the car and she asks what he did with Sully..."I let him go." Classic.
Found a little blurb on this on the interwebs. Apparently it's going to be more "realistic" with a hero who's less muscle and more skilled. A comment pointed out that that would be "Taken". Gotta agree.

Have it on Laserdisc & DVD (extended version). I am a sucker for 80's cheese and action films!
The remake will be a total piece of crapola! Like Dukes of Hazzard, The ATeam, (insert title here!) etc........
The main reason why we get all this rehash and very little original ideas is all the REAL writers (oxymoron?) have moved to television where the real and constant bucks are. Can you say CSI X 5?

Here's a thought - I wish Hollywood would clean up - in particular, picture and sound quality, some silver screen classics and re-release them in theaters instead of regurgitating and repackaging new, crappier movies from existing films. I'd love to go see some films on the big screen that are now only available to watch on the TV.
Criterion does that sometimes, but us flyover state people don't usually get to see them. Ironically, Hollywood is full of theaters that show classics. You could check out Trylon next time you're in Mpls (http://take-up.org/calendar/) and Heights (http://www.heightstheater.com/calendar.cfm).
As for Commando? I bet it will be approximately as bad as the original. I really only care then Hollywood remakes/destroys French and Japanese movies I like, even though that arguably makes more sense than remaking domestic movies.

The things they can do in the way of special effects today is nothing less than awesome and in that sense, many of these "re-made" movies are vastly improved. The only drawback I have noticed in this new era of computer graphics special effects is that movie storylines are increasingly UN-realistic. The writers and directors are allowing this new found ability to portray impossible events as possible to affect their movie scripts writing stories that are completely dethatched from reality. In other words, even if they succeed in visually making the event appear possible, in the mature movie viewer's mind, the story is not plausible, even worse it becomes absurd!
Almost all movie scripts are unrealistic whether it be action, drama or romance. That's the whole lure of cinema, to escape reality and be entertained. If you want realism, you should stick with documentaries but even then there is a bias view on the subject.
As far as a Commando remake goes, can you really top Arnold? All those cheesy one liners won't be half as good coming from someone else's mouth.

That's a pretty silly movie to remake. How long would it take to come up with a different idea of the same caliber? 10 seconds?? It was great when I was a kid but I wouldn't waste my time with it now. Definately not in the same league as Predator or Terminator. Maybe they should have torn down that Hollywood sign because if they're remaking movies like that then it's time to shut it down.

Indeed, I do go to a movie to be entertained but NOT to escape reality. I like documentaries as well. but never thought of them as mutually exclusive of one another. There are of course movies that have nothing to do with reality and I enjoy many of those as well but that that's not what I was referring to. I am talking about taking stories and by means of sensationalism and exaggeration- ruining what had the potential to be truly interesting and entertaining.

yea terminator 3 sucked really bad.. terminator 4 fell short: didnt seem as good as the scenes from t1 made the war look out to be. (scene with all the skulls and bones covering the ground, the wreckages everywhere).. and somehow the main skynet computer place is completely defenceless.. there is only 1 terminator there to guard the place?? (sucked)
i was really, really, really, really, really, really, really dissapointed with the dragonball movie.. it was the most pathetic movie i have ever seen. goku had no stregnth. was a 18yr old punker, who didnt know how to fight at all, grew up in the middle of a city-like populated area, and who doesent have a tail.. and whose grandpaw gohan raised him untill he was 18yrs old. his hair looked nothing like it should of have, and the story was completely different. it begins with him at school (goku never went to school) his home gets destroyed by piccolo, and his grandpaw dies when that happens. than goku runs into bulma and and trains to defeat piccolo. and the fight was pathetic.
in the real dragonball goku kills his grampa on accident when he is younger than 8yrs old when he transforms at the full moon. he lives on his own from that time (in the middle of the forest) untill he meets bulma at 8yrs old. he is already a deadly powerfull kid not to mess with. he soon meets krillin and trains under master roshie for the next6 months before taking 2nd place in the world marshal arts tournament. than after the next 3 years of training becoming really powerfull. he defeats evil king piccolo and saves the world. than he trains with the guardian of the earth for the next 3 years and at the next martial arts tournament his final opponent is the reincarnated piccolo who he beats and wins the tournament.
in the dragonball movie. manny important pieces are left out that really makes the story the amazing great action cartoon that it is..
krillin, tien, choutzu, oolong, pwar all dont exist. goku is a regular teenager. he is nothing like the (careless, innocent pure hearted goku)
(i understand that its hard to compete and live up to its name.. but it seems like they didnt even try) the fighting was pathetic.. it was worse than a bad 80's kungfu movie. the animation and audiowas terrable too. all of the energy blasts looked like swirly color globes.
i saw it the day it came out. and really regret it. i have never been so upset about a movie before. (they took my favorite cartoon and turned it into a joke) :tears: :sigh: :thumbsdn:

do you remember how intense terminator 1 and 2 were. remember how realistic and cool t1 was when arnold breaks down the door and shoots that lady several times.. than in t2 when the liquid metal guy kills people and says to sarah,, (I Know This Hurts, "Call To John" "call to john now") now in terminator3 theres nothing special. other than the part where she makes her boobs bigger lol.. the action is average, and there is no intence violence. T4 is alittle better but is still not verry exciting.

I'm not understanding what you mean because as I posted before, almost all movies are unrealistic and that covers most genres of cinema, especially action. Maybe you could provide an example of what you are referring to?
It would take much longer than 10 seconds to come up with something on the same level of complexity as Commando, especially with today's studio executives. That's why they are settling for a re-make.
