Connections... oh my, the connections!

So it's funny that this discussion comes up now, but I have a few receivers sitting dormant and after building my son's stereo system in his room last year, my daughters have now expressed an interest.

They have Kindle Fires that they have utterly overloaded with stupid apps, but have giant SD cards in them because I put movies, music, and tv shows that I can download on them for trips, so it's not a bad conductor of "material" into a stereo, but it wasn't the delivery I wanted. I wanted something more streamlined and dedicated to the task and we had stuff laying around as old tech.

I have a couple old generic pads, used a couple of mini usb to usb adapters with a usb to av adapter...

The results are decent, but, of course, they are asking how I connected it all and are now interested, so I want to engage them in getting a better sound.... introduce a dac. I'm investigating. The system now works pretty good, but I think cheap new Fires to replace the junked up ones are in our future, so then each will have their old "cleaned" Fires as their "delivery" device dedicated to the stereo.

There are so many ways to skin a cat... so to speak. ;) I'm interested in how you all have solved the connection problems you've had.

So the reason I started this thread was to continue the many in-line connection, Little Bear Tube Pre-Amp, and sundry other connections to get old equipment into the modern times of streaming or digital playing tunes to their best potential. I'm still, by and large, a wire guy when I can do that, but 2-5 adapters within a line is too much, so what to do?

My first question would be specific to my daughter. We're putting together a Fisher 295 with a couple of nice Polks. She doesn't want LP's, she might want CD's at some point, but she has a Fire we need to connect now...

I'm thinking a

...and then typical rca into the AUX of the Fisher. This setup would allow either the Fire or her phone to connect via the headphone jack. I've had them using the VLC player for years, so they know that interface for things downloaded, but Spotify and YouTube are where they are headed now.

Thoughts?

If your coming right out of the source device's headphone jack, there's no need for a DAC, as it's already analog. A 3.5mm to stereo RCA will suffice.

"she has a Fire we need to connect now"

If the source device has Bluetooth and the amplification device has RCA or 3.5mm inputs it's hard to beat this Bluetooth adapter and it's very little $ from quite a few retailers.
I find the sound quality difference between the headphone out and this device nominal and the convenience more than makes up for it.

I think the 1st cable most likely isn't what you want. At least I can't think of a purpose for it with the other items pictured.
