Vertical CW's? Is that the one with the vertical midrange and tweeter horn? I hope these aren't supposed to be setup on their sides because the main reason I got rid of the Bozak's was to save real estate.

You don't have to lay them, they will sound just fine if the cross overs etc are still OK etc.
I finally installed a new set of Crites C/O boards as I was worried about the oil filled "Caps" in the C/O leaking. They were not leaking but I did notice they sound cleaner now at lower volume settings. I thought it was my AVR amps were crap until 20 watts or more.

I used a Ohmn meter and checked all the drivers and made sure all the screws were still snug. All was still fine after all these years as they have been used "Hard" from day one. And now they are fronts on my HT system TOO. I don't remeber when Klipsch went to horzinal mid horns.:scratch2:
Pop had a pair of older Corns(vertical mid) from the 60's when I was a kid and he said they sounded about the same as my 79 models.

Sure look like Cornwall Is to me. I still think you got a good deal. The Pie Klipsch logo gave it away and of course the serial numbers. Lots of people would love to have a set of verticals and IMO the original Corwalls sound better than the model IIs.

I thought my 79's(Birch plywood) are Corn I's that the front grill can be removed. I think the veritals had fixed grills and PWK changed that when moved the mid horn on the motor board in the late 1960's or so...:scratch2: my med's have my memory off today :sigh: time to read all the history about the CW,I,II, III again. They had so many different changes over years it's hard to post and be perfect without looking it up first.... Where is Moray James or Bill.SS they know this without thinking about it.

Play Them Bro. I bet you will Not regret trading for these when you sort them out and your amps etc. I think someone else asked what pre amp were you playing with the Maggy amp. If it's right it should have played them just fine 7 feet apart.

I'm using an ADCOM GTP-500II. I couldn't remove the grills. That's weird that the sticker on the back would say CW II's but the speakers being the version 1's.

On those old ones the II meant that they were vertical. I have a pair of 69 verticals and they say the same thing. Here's a couple pictures of mine- the grills are stapled on with about 1000 staples per speaker.:D

I am looking for some dates on verticals last year and first year of horzinal.

I thought Horzinal like my 79 were Cornwall I.. 1986 was start of Cornwall II to ???. 2006 to now is Cornwall III. And vertical from 1959 to ?? was just a Cornwall????:scratch2:

I'm not sure either about the II on the old ones. I had thought that they made both vertical and horizontal ones at the same time and called the vertical ones the II. But after reading through the brochures that came with them, that doesn't seem to be the case. So what I thought I knew, I really didn't know at all, lol. Maybe someone that really knows will speak up because I'm confused.:D I do know this though, they sound awesome!

Cornwall II is the original name for Vertical Cornwalls (to differentiate them from regular Cornwalls)...Cornwall 2 is the newer version of Cornwalls...notice the Roman numeral difference...enjoy...

Hey Bill

I take it in the 1960's you could order a Cornrwall in Vertical and Horiznal.
I have been looking for dates when PWK stopped the vertical and when he started the horiznal.

Louis

Mystery solved. I sure wouldn't fret about it. You did good dude. Enjoy them as I am sure you will. PS, like others have said don't change a thing until you have listened to them for awhile. A capacitor upgrade probably, drivers, only if necessary.

I've been listening to them every chance I've had and I must say, they are much brighter than the Bozak's but I feel are lacking in bass but that's probably because I haven't found the proper placement. I think I'll sit on these for a few more weeks before I decide to do anything with them. Thanks for helping me to understand between the II and 2 models. I was very happy to hear that I won't have to turn them on their sides :D

I set my tone contols "Flatt" and use my two subs with very little gain on them and love the way they sound. Keep moving them around until find the right spot. I bet you will get them adjusted for the room and your hearing.

yup...I don't know the dates but the Cornwall used the II designation to denote the vertical as you could buy either...

I found some info that states the vertical was made from 1959/1969. But on the Klipsch Factory Forum
there are pic's of vertical Corns made in 1973 that have the Red arrows and II on the labels on the back.
Still looking for date of first horiznal. Retired, so while I am recording
on my R2R I am looking for more info on the Cornwalls. Learn sometime every day about our old speakers.
Thanks
Louis
