Anyone biamped a pair of these? I was reading my DBX manual and found out I can biamp up to 2 pair of speakers with this amp.

I have to say that since your Cornwalls date from 1968 or so (correct?) that you should DEFINITELY have those crossovers reworked by Bob Crites.

I got 1976 Cornwalls and after Crites's crossover work the difference was phenomenal.

I also have a pair of 1985 Cornwall 1's that haven't yet had the crossover upgrade, but will soon.

They are not dependent on corners, but like all speakers, corners are the best place for them as far as bass response goes.

enjoy! The Cornwall II (verticals) are more sought after than the regular ones, I think.

I'd be curious to hear how having the horns & tweets set vertically and off-center would change the CW presentation. Pretty sure 1986 was the first year of production for Cornwall 2's (not II's.) Listen to your II's for awhile, but sounds like you'd benefit from new XO'ers and maybe new woofs for improved BASS. They made quite an improvement there for me anyways...

I just couldn't help myself. I have the cornwall 2.
I love them, if you are a musician or a band leader
you will love them. Because the presentaton is really
in your face, as it were.

I rebuilt the crossovers, I carefully removed the damping and marked
a sheet of steel where all the staples went and punched it or drilled it.
Then I epoxed the steel to the back followed by stapleing the damping
back in.

The Cornwall 2's use a different ceramic mid driver that is smoother
than the original alnicos. At least that is what the factory told me.

I also damped my horns to keep them from ringing by coating the back
side of them with 3M undercarriage coating (for cars). You can also
wrap them tighly with hemp rope. Either way works.

My first crossover attempt used hi end audio caps and it really sucked
it made the highs really brittle and nasty. I found some replacement
oil caps that smoothed things out really really nicely.

Now I want a little more bass in them so I have to go find some wood and
line the vents at the bottom of the cabinet. It is really supposed to help
them out a lot too.

I used to have a Dbx BX1 and currently have a BX3. I'd bet half a hamburger that you're talking about the BX3 (I give cheap bets )

I actively biamp and was typing a post thinking that you can't biamp a DUAL system with this amp. I then remembered how much the dbx stuff impresses me and pulled out the manual to my BX3.

I'll be damned....it DOES imply that you can biamp two systems with it.

I don't know what amp you in fact have but aren't they marvelous buggers!!!

I like the design of those port blocks and if I could achieve a solid 25Hz, I'd be ecstatic! But, first on my list of upgrades is to get rid of those silly speaker terminals and get some 5 way binding post on them so I can use my banana plugs.

I have never heard of these speakers, I had to google them. The should sound somewhat like a Corwall/Heresy by the looks of the 3 way horn loaded cabinets.

I just love these systems, the Cornwall has brought me to the edge of my seat more than any other system ive ever used or owned
Piano sounds like Piano, (with the dynamics) so do drum kits
Bass as tall as the double bass .
Its all there,. and soooo smooth

And you don't need a mountain of power to make them sing either

I am curious about your upgrades... Those are the Fastrac horns and ALK crossover networks, am I right? Are those the original tweets or the Crites CT-125's? That is the exact configuration I am planning for my 83 Cornwalls. Which combination of ALK's did you go with? I am really interested in your impressions on the upgrade. Sorry to hijack your thread op.

Sure look like Cornwall Is to me. I still think you got a good deal. The Pie Klipsch logo gave it away and of course the serial numbers. Lots of people would love to have a set of verticals and IMO the original Corwalls sound better than the model IIs.

I couldn't agree more... I was always under the impression that the CW2s would sound at least as good or even better than the CW1s. Not so! I have a pair of 83 CW1s and a pair of 89 CW2s at home right now and the CW1's are very a noticeable step up. In fairness to the CW2s, my CW1s do have the Crites CT-125 tweets, but everything else is original in both cases. Although I have yet to open up either set to get a look at the guts, I'm thinking that it is just a simple case of build quality. The CW1s just look and feel more solidly built. If I had to pick one world to describe the difference it would be "hollow". The CW2s seem to have a hollow type of character to the way they sound, like a lack of body or depth. I know, kind of a poor description, but that is the best way I know how to describe what I am hearing.

LOL, yup that's me. My CW's are 68 I believe. I have a friend that's going to hook me up with these in a 3-4 weeks but I want to make sure they will will work for them.

All the main parts are there The K79 is a very good tweeter head and shoulders better than the K77 you used to have in the CW's. What driver do you have in the mid horn of the CW ll? In 3-4 weeks, they are getting the Crites makeover anyway. I am going to do the tweeters, mids and the crossovers along with that bass port mod that was linked earlier in the thread. Also, their gonna loose the wheels on the bottom and replace them with matching spikes.

The 1989 CW II was original, so I believe it has the K-52-K mid driver, which is also the same driver that is in my 1983 CW's. I can't really put my finger on it, but the difference was huge. Unfortunately, the CW II's sold just a couple of days ago, so I won't be able to investigate any further. I will be installing Dave's Fastrac's, along with ALK's Universals in my CW's very shortly. I just placed the orders within the past couple of days and can't wait!

It has been quite an adventure recently, with four sets of Klipsch in house. I had two sets of Cornwalls, Quartets and RF-7 II's all occupying space in my living room at the same time. You will be happy to hear that the upgraded Quartets are my favorite of the bunch. I recently installed Crites crossovers in the Quartets as the final piece of the puzzle. They sound AMAZING. I will see how the upgraded CW's compare when I finally get upgrades completed on those. They are almost as good as the Quartets now, so I can only imagine how great they will be when completed. The RF-7 II is also a very nice speaker, but is definitely a distant third, and maybe just a hair better than the CW II's I had. The RF-7 II's are up for sale now as well...

What are those boxs on top of your Cornwalls? Build or buy the wood risers for Cornwalls then use the spikes or pads.
