Corporate lingo/spin,

It is a whole new way of saying a whole lot of nothing. The ability to answer a direct question with a whole lot of blithering nonsense is a special skill nobody else would ever have a need for.

Share with us the phrases you've heard over the years.

Here's one I just heard.

Our major supermarket chain spokesperson from Woolworths managed to answer a question about their recycled soft plastics ending up in landfill or in China with this cracker of an answer.

"It's created the right dialogue. We've workshopped that with our partners. We are working very hard on it."

We've workshopped that with our partners - That's a golden line if I've ever heard one :rflmao:

In other words we have not done a thing to fix the problem.

While I'd love to dive into this, political chat is strictly forbidden here. And for good reason - very recently *removed unneeded details* so I drowned my sorrows that night in alcohol and - here's the crux of the biscuit (as Frank Zappa would say) - I totally went off in a political way on another forum - the result is I was probably banned and I haven't been back due to embarrassment. This just isn't a good thing here.

Mods will probably lock\delete and appropriately so.

We really are in a society where you can't have a laugh and a dig at politics without causing offence to some sensitive soul. :crazy:

To clarify, I wasn't being nasty to Dingman at all. Quite the opposite. I feel his pain at his loss of a friend compounded by bad news. It appears he has offended people in another forum due his politcal opinions and received a possible ban. That is my referral to "some sensitive soul", the people in the other forum as well as the overly PC police in society in general.

If there has been any confusion I sincerely apologise. :(

And we all could use a dingin' good laugh at corporate and\or political crap.

It's just the current climate - no way would any sort of political "quote" go unchallenged by some snowflake. Heck, we get threads closed due to arguments about cable size\quality, audio rack opinions, bypass caps, the color of your mom's hair, LOL.

I love it when people use the term "world class" to describe their less than stellar operations. My CFO tends to use this term describe operations that we have that are at best pretty good - but somewhat outdated. I find it embarrassing to hear such a term used for anything other than something that is outstanding and up-to-date according to the latest standards. Or if you prefer an operation that is truly "world class" and incorporates "best practices" for all phases of operations, because they "incentivized" the group to "think outside the box" in order to "innovate" and establish a "best in class" operation.

Just before my last company laid off over 40 people, they had a meeting to tells about how they were "right sizing" the work force.
Lame...it was a layoff, everyone knew it was a layoff, and calling it right sizing just made the directors look silly.

Couldn't agree more. I've been involved in a number of "right sizings" and the rank and file all refer to it as a "Lay-Off" so nobody is fooling anybody! I guess it looks better on the press release? But, everybody knows what it actually means.
 
"Unlock shareholder value" - basically raid the company for short-term stock gains.
"Adjusting to competitive pressures" - They're not making enough money on the product, so they're moving production to China.
"Focusing on core competencies" - Ditching stodgy (low profit) divisions for the hopes of striking it rich on the Next Big Thing™
