Could you live on a "seafood" diet?

We ordered a pig back in the spring that should be ready soon. Does that answer the question?:D

Seriously, I enjoy shellfish, but can't stand fish. It would need to be a life or death situation for me to eat fish. Kinda like that Tom Hanks movie where he was stranded on an island.

No.

I really enjoy all seafood. But I would miss an occasional good steak, prime rib, cheeseburger, hot link, sausages, a glazed holiday ham, roasted lamb, roasted duck, Thanksgiving turkey, yakitori, kabobs, gyros, meat curries, chili, beef jerky, salami, smoked bacon, pork cutlets, meatballs, meatloaf, all those weird organ meats...

:D

If I had to, such as being stranded on an island with a dozen beautiful women and no animals to eat, I could live on seafood and plant matter. Take away the women and I would swim to the nearest island with cows.

Beautiful cows ... ? :naughty:

True dat. Good food is one of the simple pleasures of life (along with music, sex and good drink). I couldn't enjoy life as a vegan, but I could with a diet of shrimp, crab and oysters.

I could live as a vegan. IMO, most of the delicious flavors of food are in the veggies and seasonings anyway. I might miss the textures of cheeses and fish, and the taste of salmon or scallops, but there are so many other delicious things to eat. I haven't had a bite of chicken, beef, pork, etc. in 20 years, and really didn't ever miss it or crave it after I stopped. You might be surprised how easy it is to adapt.

Actually we aren't eating a lick of meat or fish tonight. Whole wheat pasta with a sauce of fresh tomatoes, green pepper, basil, pine nuts, onion, garlic and feta. Yum.

I think my favorite 5-6 foods are all seafood - crab, shrimp, oysters, calamari, mussels, grilled tuna. Next on the list is lamb though.

Luckily, I like all vegetables with no exceptions. I love even the ones people love to hate (beets, cabbage, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, asparagus. lima beans ...) It's all good.

Well, honestly, I DO like quite a few of the veggies you listed...don't much care for cabbage, tho...Now, Broccolli...My Mom used to fix it steamed w/melted garlic butter...I'd put some-OK, A LOT-of Kraft Parmesan cheese on it, & OMIGAWD...Heavenly ! Chilled pickled beets are scrumptious....Brussels Sprouts, w/enuff Marzetti's dressing are OK, as are BABY Limas-"Butter Beans"-As we call 'em down here...Even Asparagus is OK, as long as its the tip-top ends...Put a little Mayo on 'em, you're All Set ! So, OK, maybe the culinary parts of bein' a Vegan wouldn't be TOO terrible, but I flatly REFUSE to grow a ponytail, get rid of The Mighty Valdez, & get a Prius, & turn in my membership in the NRA...(grin)

I bet you'd look cute in Birkenstocks, Sandy.:D

They hurt my feet...Make Uncle Arthur mad...(grin) Nothing sez "Leftover Sixties Hippie" more than a balding guy w/what's left of his WHITE hair in a ponytail...cheezy, longish 'Stache, thick tri-focal glasses, sandals 'n' socks..Fading "McGovern '72" bumper sticker on his rusty microbus...

Sea food again tonight - Linguini & clam sauce, a small salad, garlic toast and a glass or two of a decent but cheap white wine.

Tomorrow night probably a "plastic tray" meal out of the freezer or perhaps leftover linguini & clam sauce. Won't know until tomorrow night.

Friday night... Who knows

Saturday night sea food again. By request. Grilled shrimp skewers, brown rice (baked) steamed broccoli, and LOTS of beer. One of my friends brings me all of the stuff and I cook it for her.

The only vegatable that I can unequivocally say that I simply WILL NOT consume is lima beans. Hate em. Period. If I were trapped in a warehouse full of lima beans I'd starve to death before the first one of them crossed my lips. I'll eat pickled beets but I'd rather have those purple pickled eggs that my Grandmother put in with the beets.

I suspect that I eat a LOT of sea food because of my local fish monger. He maintains an email list of his regular customers. Whenever he gets something exceptional he fires off an email to us. If an email from him hits the inbox and it's something I like I have to drop whatever I'm doing that minute and make the 10 minute drive to his shop. Whatever he's offering is usually gone within minutes of him sending out the email. The last offering was the sea scallops I spoke of in the first post. They were really REALLY good. The one before that was swordfish. It too was fantastic.

It's kind of funny seeing the same people lined up in his shop right after he sends out an email. We all stand there in line and discuss what it is we're going to do with what we're there to get.

I enjoy pretty much all meat. I could live on a seafood only (as meat) diet if I had to, but I like variety.

On a side note, have you noticed that canned tuna isn't as good as it was before they removed all the dolphin meat?

If I had access to really good seafood I believe I could. Vegan would be a bit harder as I really love good cheese. I have been trying to cut back on meat recently. I have not had any including chicken in about a week now. I am going to see how long I can go. Last night was a Chinese tofu dish tonight will probably be either shrimp or a falafel dish.
