Google the Clearaudio Statement turntable that thing was designed for. "Value" is a relative term.

But, yeah, for that money you might be able to find a used SOTA Star with a vacuum hold down built into the platter. Coupling the record to the platter can make an audible difference in some cases.

$170,000?! for that kind of money I better be able to travel through time! it looks like something out of a sci-fi show. The equipment used to make the recording don't cost that much!
 
So you probably aren't the target demographic, then.

Neither am I, but if you have that kind of disposable income, then more power to you.

One of my favorite quotes about audio is "Yeah, it's a lot of money for a stereo, but not that much for a time machine!"

Meaning that a really good stereo will recreate the image of the recording venue with amazing accuracy.

It doesn't take $170,000 to get there - not even close - but there are technologies in the Statement turntable that trickle down to the other products in Clearaudio's line. Kind of like Honda providing engines for F1 cars. They learn things when they don't have to make compromises to hit a price point.

Yeah, but how much was your record clamp?

I understand the OP on this. There's a lot of $$$ I'd spend on other things before I picked up that clamp. Heck I still haven't grabbed a Reflex clamp for my SOTA, and they're way less expensive.

There is only one reason for the OP to start a thread like this, TROLLING. This site thinks it's cool to belittle and pick on equipment that one they can't afford, don't want to afford, and have no experience with.

How would the site like constant post, Why in the world would anyone spend their money on a Sansui AU 717, that might be the craziest thing I have ever seen. would this be worth it for the most discerning audiophile? I think it is a huge waste. what are your opinions?

My gear consists of a Sony Hap-s1 receiver and A Denon dp7f turntable, powered by a Cambridge 651P pre amp. All fed into a Schiit Valhalla II with Philips PCC88/7DJ8 Tubes. I use a set of Sennheiser 598 to listen to my music. Its a pretty modest setup if you ask me

I enjoy music, its like a hobby to me. I guess the point I want to make is, I see the value of spending money on whatever equipment you can afford, but spending $1000 on a piece of metal and wood is crazy no matter who you are, especially since there are nearly identical products available for a fraction of the price.

Yes, it's yours and for your enjoyment, as with anything others like and like to do. As we are all individuals, your system and what brings you enjoyment will not for all people. I know I wouldn't want your system, I hope you don't mind that, that's just my opinion, good, bad, cost or otherwise it just not for me. But for you it's cool enjoy it, have fun in your life with what you own.

yeah my system is pretty entry level so I totally get that. as for what I said its just an opinion. you don't have to agree with it and I respect that

The point I'm trying to get at, there is all sorts of members here and in the hobby, if I started threads to joke and laugh at gear and the price well it's going to offend someone. It doesn't matter if it's a Crossly or a Statement Turntable, it's someones equipment, just like what you chose to own.

Peace Brother, just trying to show what's not right here..
