crazy vinyl clamp

it's my belief that what is needed is the clamping of the record to the surface of the platter (short of having vacuum hold down/clamp or a clamp and periphery ring) the less weight,the better. i have a planamax (french and no longer available) that is nearly weightless and l like it a lot.

i used a ratshack plastic clamp that reduced the ringing of the platter on my kd500 tt, of COURSE they stopped making it just as they did the excellent decca type record brush (like an AQ bur with finer and consequently more carbon fibers. i still use that.

i also have the sota reflex clamp which i like the best but can collide with certain carts like the v15Vxmr due to its large diameter and thickness. i also have an ORSONIC DISC STABILIZER DS-250 that is also a reflex type but smaller and slightly less effective on warped discs.

integral screw down clamps that come with some tables like the VPIs i find to be excellent and are usually lightweight the way i like them.

the astronomically priced clamps/weights made of exotic materials and bizarre mechanics will be for others that are amenable to the cost vs performance ratio of such.

I was going to say this also,
surprises me that it took 6 pages,
with screw down, you add just as much pressure as is needed to straighten warps.

It doesn't have to be ''integral''. The one I mentioned in post #81 has winding and can be used on any turntable. Lightweight, nice looking, and not less important - doesn't cost a fortune.

My most recent puck buy just for the use as speed control: Sutherland Timeline Strobe Record Weight
 
From what I can see, the Sutherland tells you if your TT is fast/slow but you need a separate controller to remedy the issue, something like the Phoenix Engineering Roadrunner.

Yes!

I use a rebuild Lenco L75. No need for a controller, but I`ve also a "Nigel power controller"
 
Clearaudio quotes this review of their Statement Clamp on their site —

"'The gains were earth-shattering!' raves Ken Kessler in England's Hi-Fi News magazine."

Obviously this puts an end to all debate. Anyone who cannot even hear the Earth shatter has no right even to have an opinion, much less to express it.

Yes, I can confirm that this is not quite accurate.
I recently (3 months ago) bought a VERY expensive new Clearaudio Concept turntable.
The turntable is superb, excellent finish, simple, but so well made. Beautiful to look at and use.
I previously had a Project Xpression for 15 years also very good.
The Clearaudio came with a light weight/disc/puck. The earth did not shatter though.
I am thinking the reviewer got a free turntable to say that:idea:

truly i can't see paying more than the price of a SOTA Reflex Clamp. there are also the Michel clamp and one from KAB USA .com (https://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/usagrip.htm) for much less than even the SOTA clamp.

there are weights that CLAIM to be clamps but are not. if it doesn't hold downward pressure by grabbing the spindle,it isn't a CLAMP.

ripblade..."Could still be a clamp if it grabs onto gravity." nahh, that requires too much mass, a clamp can be almost weightless and STILL do the job.
