Critters

DSC02073%20copy_zps67evbxiv.jpg

^Cool! A Jerusalem cricket! I saw those out in California when I was there in the summer of 2014. :) I'm sure you know already, but be careful! They can inflict a really painful bite! ;)

I always knew them as Potato Bugs, way back to being a wee one. It was only a few years ago that I learned the title of Jerusalem Cricket.

My severed finger after trying to get the picture (... the wife is convinced that it could happen. These things freak her out!).

Yeah, they are colloquially and more commonly known as potato bugs, but I was introduced to them as Jerusalem crickets mostly because of my biology friend who was on the California trip with me who referred to them that way. Begrudgingly so though. lol He's a real biology wonk, and he prefers the latin name for everything. So he prefers to refer to them as "the genus Stenopelmatus from the family Stenopelmatidae." lol :p No need to fear them or kill them though. They are cool insects that have their place in the ecosystem, and are a part of the balance of life. Just don't pick them up. lol :p Nice pics though! Thanks for sharing! :)
