I am not the biggest fan of Yamaha gear, but the 10000 series IS something I respect dearly.
I paid $4200US for a 1979 MINT Rotel RC 5000 that I do not regret one cent on. I would like the CX but the problem: too digitized. That is, the RC 5000 I bought is all 100% solid state. Anything goes on it: easy to replace. It will be a resistor, capacitor or inductor. That's it. On the CX, there are computer chips, DAC's DSP chips... all VERY hard to replace if they go. And the fact the same amount of cash can get a killer preamp that is brand new....
I am not saying the CX is not worth it or worth it at the money. My point is the amp is in the "tender" area where it may be mint and cared as such, but any repairs are going to be EXPENSIVE on not only parts but LABOUR to track down what is wrong and how to fix it. On simple SS gear a competent tech would do, but for something like a CX the tech must be top notch with the detail involved.
In fact, there is a German seller selling a COMPLETE set of amp, preamp and cdp all 10000 series right now on ebay. The ORIGINAL list for the set (on buyitnow) was $9k for the amp, $7K for the pre and $5200 for the cdp. Makes this offer seem cheap. AND the original box, manual..... seller goes by mc-voltan. Look it up.
Hope someone gets it who will love it.
