Dahlquist DQ 10 speakers

I wonder why DQ-10s go so cheap. They look cool, sound fantastic and are about the easiest speaker in the world to work on. They love a high current amp. The heavier the better.

They're big and awkward and have a low WAF, is my guess. They're also fairly plentiful and weren't super-expensive initially.

Saw in CL today a pair for $500.00 that is crazyness there i tell ya.

last pair in kijiji calgary was $1,500. I don't think they sold but some people highly value these.

I have a paired powered by a Hitachi SR 2004. It is capable of 240 watts continuous, peak is 400 watts. I have the volume turned up ridiculously high and I can comfortably sit in front of the speakers and enjoy them. It wasn't until I went upstairs that I realized how loud they were.

There is a phenomenon where you can listen to high quality systems at elevated volumes without fatigue. I have never experienced that to the extent I have with the DQ 10.

going price in this neck of the woods is @ $400.

I paid $400 for my mirror imaged pair in excellent condition with stands and paperwork from original owner.

If not excellent condition, I would say $350 is todays "fair price". Anything less than that would be a deal I think. Refoam was easy.

My space is limited so I have mine up on top of another pair of speakers, tilted forward (down) and toed in towards my listening chair.

They are really great for electronic, acoustic and vocals. I really love them even though they are ridiculously large (wide!!). I have found the bass to be satisfactory as long as you aren't looking for room cranking thump...it is only a 10" sealed so it can only do so much. I have however paired these with subs and an electronic X/O crossing at 150 Hz...then you can get some volume without straining the woofers. They play quite loudly with proper power in this case.

It's really funny how some brands are way under-valued while some are over-priced. DQ-10's are definitely under appreciated. I think it's the odd ugly (to most ppl at least...) front and exposed crossover usually covered in 1/2 inch of dust.....with amost always crumbling surrounds. In my case, after all these years of being awed by a few pairs I've restored, I kind of got tired of how they look....especially how they "hide" my set up behind those large baffle.

Just bought a mirrored pair for $200.00 before the holidays. Had boxes and stands from original owner and in very good condition. New surrounds and recap brought the price close to 300. Woofers had dates on them 1984 so they are some of the last produced. (they were never out of the cabinet) Past on many pairs of these, the boxes and light colored grill clothe sold me on. So far i like them a lot...

Hi. I just bought my, but the knob volume in the back is not working. When I turn it the the left or right, the sound didnt change. Can you guys tell me what is the problem? Is it because the crossover or something else?

The control only changes the tweeter and super tweeter levels. Tweeter is 6,000Hz to 12,500Hz and the super tweeter is 12,500Hz on up. Probably won't hear much out of the super tweeter, but you should hear some change in the tweeter. But this is the $ & ¢ forum where we talk value. Feel free to post your very own thread in speakers about your new DQ-10s. Folks like to see pics and read about what you have. Give the serial numbers/first few digits and some xxxes if you want to keep that confidential. Pics of the crossover so we can see if you have all electrolytic caps or the later poly caps and only one 'lytic cap.
