DCM TF 700 Refurb starting soon

If any one needs a spec sheet for the TF 700's send me a PM with you E-Mail address.
The one I have is in PDF form and I'm having a hell of a time trying to get it posted.

Nudies of the TF's with their socks off coming up shortly.

John, the 600's have a different arangement of drivers correct? Pic #4 is my right speaker.

KIngBubba, I didn't find any fuse or breaker anywhere but I tell you I've pushed them quite a bit with the G-8 and they wanted more.

It'll still be a while before their done Jim. The fun part is yet to come.....making the new socks. The wife has offered to pull out the sewing machine to help me get these made tomorrow sometime.
In the meantime I'll clean up the swing out supports and give them a fresh coat of black paint. The oak tops and bases are in nice condition.

Here's the nudies.

Rod, are there tweeters on the back like the 600s?

I have some plastic weld, that could take care of those cracks. And I'm pretty good with bondo- we could carve/re-fill the missing chips, then primer the cups, and paint them satin black. I'd be glad to help.

No tweets on the back of these Paul. Just the 3 drivers on the front and the port.
Thanks for the offer to try and repair the cups but there in rough shape. They seem to be dried out and brittle. Comes with age I guess. I'll see what Penny at DCM has to tell me. Maybe they still have replacements.

Here's the nudies.

The 600's are a completely different animal... 2 6.5" drivers, one with a coaxially mounted tweeter, and 2 tweeters mounted on the narrow angled part of the back of the cabinet, up near the top. Rear port, on the bottom. The front firing drivers are on the same side as the badges, IE in the left speaker, the drivers are over towards the right side of the cabinet.

Haven't ever pulled the crossovers, but it's supposed to a complicated design, probably very similar to yours... supposed to have overload protection, there is no fuse holder or reset button, so I'm assuming it's a thermal switch.

Mine also have binding posts, I've seen others for sale that had the cheesy spring terminals... Mine are black, I like the Oak much better!

Good luck, and have fun working on these! Don't forget the pics!

Hmmmm.... On the 600's the badge on the left speaker goes in the upper right corner, which is opposite of what you say the 700's are.

Hey John, I just realized the badges (if I had any) would be in the same position on both our sets.
Yours: Left Speaker Badge in the upper right corner.
Mine: left side of the right speaker and to the right of the left speaker.
Same thing, just worded differently

The Timeframes are stripped down and ready for the new cloth. I didn't have room to spread the cloth out in the basement but luckily my coffee table opens up to 50" X 60". Perfect table for laying out the cloth.
Both pieces are cut and ready to sew which will be started on in a couple of hours. While I had everything out I replaced the grill cloth on the Straut Classics as well.
Here's a few pics.

The Timeframes are now done.
Sewing the socks were a little trickey but we figured it out. The Timeframes are wider at the bottom than they are at the top so we had to sew them tapered. We took the new cloth, folded it in half and pinned the open end together. Measured the top and bottom of the speaker, subtracted 1 1/2" to allow for stretch so they fit snugly, from the measurements and transfered the measurements to the new cloth on top and bottom. Used a piece of chalk to to determine the sew line. Donna ran them through the sewing machine and then I trimmed off any extra material before turning them rightside out. Slid them over the speakers, trimmed the excess material and used an electric staple gun to secure the cloth in a few places. I fgured I'd use the staples instead of glue for easier access in the future if ever needed. Installed the top and bottom caps and the swing out supports. Cut out the hole for the crossover and installed those. Stood them up and went over them with a lint roller and there done.

I love how they turned out. Not that bad of a project if you take your time.

Thanks Max. It was a fun project with excellent results.
I just found some blank replacement terminal cups that are the correct size from Speaker Works.com I'll order some of these to replace the broken and cracked ones and they'll be good to go for a long time.

Nice work, you should be proud. :thmbsp:

Thanks guys. I'm really pleased how these turned out. I'm very proud of the job Donna and I did together. (as he raises his hand to pat himself on the back) :D
The new terminal cups were shipped out today and I should have them by Thursday or Friday.
