DCM Timeframe TF400

While you have the hood up so to speak- check the glue on the rubber surrounds as they have been known to come un-glued and make a flapping noise!

Yeah, I was going to do that while having everything open, best time to do it.

I'm probably going to get those tweeters, if anything they're about the only thing I can find that seems like it'll work. I'm replacing them in pairs, so the negative effect, if any, should be minimized.

Still wondering if maybe getting some new woofers to drop in for no reason is a good idea...I should leave well enough alone.

As far as DCM being Dome Capitol of Michigan....works for me. Im quite the fan of a certin green plant. :)
 
Dope not dome. I am picking up a pair of TF-350 Sat. I have TW 1's now, think I'll continue to be addicted.

I have an all tube set-up here, tube amp, preamp, SACD player (not tubed). Got some glorious Genalex Gold Lion KT-88 clones going in my amp. Makes the TW 1 light up with 38/w channel.
 
I would keep the woofers like they are for correct loading, tuning and voicing purposes! I think those tweeters are probably right on target and the original woofers are certainly perfect like they are.

Just got the TF 400s yesterday, wow! They just displaced my smaller Advents out of my system. Everything sounds so biiiiiig... :) :banana:

It is mindblowing to see this string on the DCM 400's! I got a pair 14 years ago at a closeout sale at Circuit City, together with an Onkyo receiver and CD player, all together for $350.

The DCM's are the best sounding speakers I've ever had. The soundstage, presence, sibilance are phenomenal at any price.

This has been the cause of some consternation with the folks who installed a fancy-schmancy sound system in my family room: the speakers are B&W CM 7's, and they sound dead to me. I've gotten an "emperor's new clothes" speech from the hi end audio folk who installed the system: "No...really...you just THINK your old DCM's out in the guesthouse sound better...these B&W's really sound better...you just don't know it." I'm sticking to my guns...the DCM's just blow them away.

It was fascinating to see so many other fans out there. I was especially interested to see another guy out there with the combo of DCM's and a JVC JRS-301. What are the odds?...
 
I would like to see a Time Frame Model listing with the driver compliment set out next to the mode it isl Or pehaps even a driver location i.e. the TF 600's have rear firing tweeters, etc. With those darn socks on it is difficult to see what is under the hood.
Anybody got any ideas here? i think my 700's are a 2 way with 8" woofers, that is all I can tell you short of pulling the sock up...it ain't broke so I ain't gonna fix it.

Ok, to bring back an old thread :D I just picked up a pair of TimeFrames TF-400's at a thrift today. VEry cheap indeed, but I have not hooked them up yet. Need to clean off the cob webs and do some dusting. I'm hoping for no issues with the drivers since getting to them appears to be a PITA. There were also some Ultralinear Tower Power 460's there. Nice looking speakers but kinda big. And since space is currently at a premium, I had to pass. Like I really NEEDED more speakers. Especially, after a local AK'er hooked me up to some nice Phase Tech PC-60 bookshelf speakers this weekend. The girlfriend will be mad now :)

I think you done good to pass on the Ultralinears. Kinda a "thunder lizard" speaker imo. On some of the DCMs there is a nut on the bottom that holds the base on so look to there first if you need to get the sock off. Congratulations on the score!

I know it's an old question but the TF600s should have a rear tweeter.

Thanks :) The Ultralinears looked nice with the glass tops, but I have never heard great things about them, so I took a chance and passed. I hooked up the 400's to a Pioneer SA-6800 Int Amp. All I can say is whats others have. Wow:sigh: For the 30.00 spent, I cannot imagine finding much better. All drivers are working, the sock is in decent shape. The wood has no scratches. All in all, I'm not sure if the JBL L26's will be staying in the family room now:scratch2:

When I was in high school I had a job at a pizza parlor. I scrimped and saved and bought a Pioneer receiver, a Sony 8-track recorder and needed speakers.
My choices for my budget, were at two different stores. It was between a pair of Ultralinears and a pair of the original Advents.I thought the Stones would sound better on the Ultralinears and they had what I thought was that big speaker coolness factor.:o I hope my taste in speakers has improved since then. One of my college girlfriends had a huge pair with the glass tops you mentioned.

The TF 600's have 2 tweeters in the rear. One at each side of the cabinet about 6" from the top.

I just recently sold a set of TF600's as I am moving and had to thin the collection out a tad.

One more DCM fan

Acquired DCM Timeframe 1000s in April and I couldn't be happier. Continue to read good things about DCM but have found little "factual" info on TF1000 specs. The "manual" on DCM site only provides instruction on ensuring they are phased properly.

I would love to know what speakers are under the socks :yes:

I'd forgotten.I wish I'd never sold mine. Oh well, there were plenty made and I can find more. Like many people here I am addicted to buying speakers and actually have more than I need. Sometimes it sorta makes me sad when I see wonderful speakers sold at low prices. They once brought such joy.

DCM was never big on printing much in the way of specs. Back when I sold them it was more like "ya gotta hear the magic". I was once good at selling speakers (genuwine Texas brag)and there was never a speaker line in my decades of selling speakers that sold itself the way DCM did, if you could just get a customer to listen to them. They were also seldom returned. Bonus!

In the day, I owned an original pair of Time Windows. Foolishly sold them, but they did go to a friend. Wonderful speakers!

Currently have a pair of TF-400, and on Tues, am taking delivery of a pair of TF-1000! Oh Boy! The fun should start about 11 AM!
 
Congrats on the find, I am jealous. I have started hording TimeFrames recently. Over the past year I've bought 2 pairs of TF400's and a pair of TF600's. I absolutely love them.
 
After spending the day with these, the JBL's have taken a break :yes: Very nice speakers. Now I guess, I need to find some TF-1000 :D
 
Does anyone know of a good replacement for the padding that is glued to the wood surface in the Timeframe series? I picked up a pair on craigslist, but the padding on one of the speakers is in really rough shape along the edges. I'm afraid it will look lumpy if I sock over the top of it.

As far as replacing the sock goes: I do not sew nor do I know anyone who does. Would it be possible to use that fabric fuse stuff that you heat with an iron?
