DCM Timeframe TF400

And who would have thunk it? More DCM fans ;o)

I picked up a pair of TF350's a few months back, had the surrounds repaired and have been enjoying them since! I agree with all the reviews here concerning them 100 percent & actually can't picture myself getting rid of them.
I'm glad to here people as surprised as I was first hearing them!

how/where to fix DCM TF-400?

Hi, I just bought a pair of these for $50 from the original owner. He hadn't used them in a year but said they sounded great at that point. When I got them home, one of the two units sounded amazing, and the other one sounded quiet and muffled. I switched the wires between the bad speaker and the good speaker, and that didn't change anything, the same one sounded bad (so I don't think it's the amp, an old Sansui 1000x). By looking at the manual diagram and holding my ear up, I'm 99.9% the problem is with the tweeter at the top of the speaker.

Any suggestions for how I can better diagnose this myself? What are the possible/likely problems? And more realistically (since I'm completely inexperienced with this stuff), anyone know of a good repair place in the Philadelphia area? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Don't get into the sock removal unless you have to. It is doable but not a lot of fun. Also keep in mind that the tweeters are protected by an in line glass bulb which will blow instead of the voice coil in the tweeter. If you ever hear that a tweeter is not working, always look to the crossover bulb/fuse first before thinking you lost a tweeter.

Hi, i'm trying to deterime if my TF-400's are version 1 or II, i don't want to remove the socks. Can you tell me where the tweeter would be located on the back so i can see if there is one there?

I have a set of DCM Timewindow QED's... they sound great and are hooked up to a old Fisher 800c receiver. real happy with them. Anyone have the Timewindows that have speakers on 2 sides? Can't remember the name of them...1a"s?? Something like that.
 
I bought a pair of pristine TF400's for my garage for $50, glad I did they sound great. What a soundstage these things have! No room in our house anywhere but sure makes the garage a nice workplace (inside our home theater setup is a Klipsch C-5 center, ADS M-12 mains, Advent Heritage tower surrounds. Kitchen has a pair of Advent Heritage towers and Optimus Pro-LXii. My little recording studio has RSL 6600h (huge behemoths!) and AR-18's and CSI MDM-2a's, all with pretty good receivers powering them), so you can see no room in house. Unless wife lets me setup a stereo in bedroom? I just passed on another set of the Advent Heritage towers for $40 because wife said no (and they are excellent speakers indeed). The curse of the Craigs List searcher I suppose.
 
Ron, there is no rear firing tweeter on the TF 400. The crossover is attached to the plastic plate where you plug up the speaker in the back.
 
Hey DCM'ers! Question for you; I have an opportunity to purchase either a Timeframe 350 or for 30-40% more a set of QED's. What are the drivers in the QED's versus those of the timeframe 350's? Which speakers were higher up in the lineup and how do they stack up? Advice on which purchase to make!

Congrats of finding the DCM's. Just this week, I found a nice condition (single) DCM TF-500 Time Frame at the Salvation Army. I purchased the single Speaker for $4.99 lol. I am very much into MONO Speakers/Tube Amps systems so, I hooked up a vintage HEATHKIT A-9C Mono Integrated Tube Amp to the TF-500 and...I was BLOWN AWAY how nice it sounds!
I plan to use this MONO system in one of my smaller rooms. Should you find yourself a Tube Amp, the DCM's appear to be VERY good mates.

While I hate to kick up an old topic...I see the last activity was 19 days ago.

Anyway, when I was searching for the specs (again), my post came across Google. I re-read it for some nostalga. SixCats' comment jumped out at me. Two weeks ago I got tube amps...and you're right...they sound EVEN BETTER on tubes.
