Deal of the day!

I just picked up a Luxman R-405 receiver in very good condition with a pair of Polk Monitor 4a speakers (in excellent condition) for $20 of the local CL. Sound is excellent!

That's a pretty good score for that kind of coin. I have a near-mint Luxman R-406 that I am thinking of letting go soon. They have a very lively sound with lots of punch and dynamics. They were biased "hot" and they sound like it. Enjoy your new purchase! :)

Finally, someone uses the right term for the length of time for a deal. Deal of the Day leaves open getting something better as early as tomorrow instead of having to way a year or century. I will never say deal of the decade to keep from eliminating a better deal in the ensuing decade.

Nice gear. The Luxman uses a super cap to hold station memory if yours decides not to, it needs replacement. Easy enough.

^Yeah, I forgot to mention that. Unfortunately, that is a typical part that goes on these. Cheers.

The guts of the Luxman seems very well built, the knobs and pots are plastic though, and one of the knobs has a crack in it that I'll have to glue back together. nevertheless, the sound is really punchy as Eywadude has mentioned. It also does need to get the super cap replaced

I had an R406 and really liked the sound of it. After the overkill of the suckface series, they went a little too far in the other direction with these. Looks are very understated. Keep the vents clear. Mine got quite hot after running a while.

Looks are a little plain, but I've had a few Technics from this era that were way over the top, so this isn't bad. Concerning the heat, I've never had a liquid cooled heat sink before, so this is a new experience. It sounds great with these Polk's, so I'll probably keep them together.
