Thanks guys Its good to be able to connect with people who have similar interests. Re Rome's comment, the JVC deck is my absolute favorite. it is known as a "sleeper" deck, its a no fuss unit with basic calibration/test tone capabilities and even tho it may not look like its built like a tank, it works very well. it is my main recording deck. Re comment about minidisc and dat, I do have minidiscs, over 200 of them, but I have only portable minidisc players/recorders (8 of them). I do have dat drives but only computer based backup drives. I guess you could call me a format junkie :lmao:

The only way apart from reel to reel to transfer that lovely analog sound onto another format for preservation. I have tapes that are nearly 40 years old and still sound magic. Cant say the same for the dye "breakdown" factor with CDs, not to mention 1's and 0's just don't sound like a real analog waveform

Oh I forgot to mention...the cd player in the car is going, and a high end tape unit is going into that instead

I owned a R-S33 receiver back in the 80s & still today I comment on how nice it was. I miss it dearly, but thank goodness I have tapes it was used to record so that I can reflect.

Also, I have a lot of JVC brochures from that area.

I just looked up images for that amp on google, looks awesome. What deck were you using tho? If it was a JVC I bet it was good! Over the last month my JVC V661 has been pulled down completely for a total service, the belt was so worn, it had a groove in it. I got an original japanese replacement belt, and wow what a difference. Total fidelity, no variation in clarity, its a totally different deck now (and it was good even before that). I am just re-recording some tapes I made with dolby C (what a mistake), they are so non-compatible with other decks grrrr, there is very little tape his without dolby now since the service. I have a high end Pioneer cassette deck going into the car shortly and possible an TOTL alpine deck in the near future. The car cd player is going into the store room

Love that 8-Track player! I installed an 8-track player in my parent's 1973 VW van, wore out my "Aqualung" tape from playing it over and over...

8 Track tapes pass over the head 4 times per play of the tape. This makes sense re tape wear. Was the sound muffled? Or was the tape frilled once it was worn out. I have some led zeppelin 8 tracks which are so muffled that they are almost unlistenable, but the band is so great I keep playing them once every now and then :thmbsp:

What deck were you using tho?

A Sharp RT-10 deck. It was a cheapy, but it recorded well & loved those led meters. Good stuff you got going on!

I looked up the Sharp RT-10, interesting, and no doubt I believe the recordings made on it would be quite nice for a deck of that time. Reminds me of the old Pioneer CT-F505 that I used when I was 12 years old and was blown away by the quality of the recordings it made for my crappy phillips tape walkman. I was recording of FM radio too, those were the days. Found some pics of these decks too.

Yea, that's it! A very nice deck & simple to use.

I also have a Pioneer CT-F500 that needs a belt right now.
