Design A New McIntosh Product

McIntosh has a wonderful line up of products available. The current retail catalog has no less than 12 amplifiers, 8 preamps, 2 A/V control centers, 6 integrated amps, 8 source components, 2 video components, and 18 different speakers available.

Looking at, and thinking about all those products made me wonder, is there a McIntosh product you would like to see developed? I think it is safe to say, there is already a long line for the new McIntosh Blu-Ray player, if and when it ever comes to market. Besides that one item, what McIntosh product would you be designing if you could? :scratch2:

I'd like to see a successor to the MR85 that would incorporate the TM2 tuner module at a minimum and also optionally allow a satellite radio add-on similar to what some other manufactures offer with their receivers.
 
How about a new McIntosh two channel preamp with internal dual quad DACs, capable of SACD/CD decoding. This would provide a direct path to leading edge digital performance for so many existing SACD and CD players using older, single DAC decoders that still have excellent transports (call it C600).

At the same time, introduce a new premium McIntosh transport capable of SACD/CD digital output (call it MCD2000), and mate it to a new, revamped dual Quad DAC SACD/CD decoder (call it MDA2000)

I agree. Some level of flexibility for the 'final' tuner. HD etc.
 
How about one in between

An updated mono tube amp with meters. About 75% of the new 301s. Just a bit more power than bridged mc275.
"big tube" power just a little less than top of the chain.

I second that one.:yes: That would be an ideal product.
 
I will love to see a real integrated item, with amp, cd and tuner in a single box, as for the Linn Classik, Arcam Solo and so on.... I'm a bit disappointed by the 2 boxes design of the mini unit for the 60 th birthday.
Blue meters would be more than welcome but it will be ok without them....
To me 100 quality Watts would be more than enough.

As I said before, it would be great in everyone's office, bedroom and so on, and of course it would be a must in Ivan's restrooms :D:D:D
I would easyly pay 6000 $ for such a unit. Maybe I'm just dreaming....
I would pair it with a nice pair of ProAc Response D2, or Tannoy Mini Autograph, or better a pair of the new and wonderful Diablo Utopia, replacing the micro Utopia....

We have an internal list that goes way out in time. Some projects become products and some don't but mostly they evolve over the design period. Many projects are out of the box and hinge on trends or technology changes that may or may not happen. Much of this is beyond McIntosh' or anyone else's control of course. HD-DVD is a recent example of a product that is RIP in the industry.

PS- I wouldn't hold my breath on the reel-to-reel idea....

How About

1. Tube Active X-OVER.

2. OPEN ARCHITECTURE Audio/Video version of MS750...That is it uses the customer's storage and "does video".

3. All future source components should be able to be controlled with a pc/mac
via an IP network. The interface should also support remote problem determination.

4. Good quality sound isolation racks.
 
I know your all probably going to think I am nuts here, .... but here goes.

Years ago I used to have a equalizer, with a spectrum analyzer display. That was a great toy, to experiment with. I used to have it hooked up between the record in and out connection and would use it to tweak the sound.

I think a McIntosh equalizer, and spectrum analyzer, with black glass, blue LED's showing the level settings for each band, and a blue display for the analyzer would be really cool.
