Despicable state of kids today - Video

I don't know but that was the money raised. Is she getting any of it? :dunno:

That's a great question. It's pretty clear that with the amount of money in play that people will start clawing for it.

At first glance:

indigogo.com takes 4%
Max, the guy who started the campaign, holds the money in his bank account. His original goal was to raise $5000 to give the bus monitor a vacation. It's possible that he could give her $5000 and pocket the remainder.

The parents of one or more of the kids in the video might sue for a cut. The videographer might make a copyright claim.

The entire situation is a frickin' awesome clusterscrew. And people often say that it's the lawyers that start this stuff. :lmao:

I'm not positive, but I thought he stated he would be keeping nothing at all, and he said that well after going over the $5k goal. The fallout of him keeping even some of it would be horrific, to say the least. Is it going in his account? he mentioned something about credit cards as a layover. Then again, i'm not really following this project.

Checking the updates to the indiegogo, there's a petition to the president that you can sign to try to get her the money tax free or something? c'mon that seems like a bit much.

Either way, I hope she does have a nice vacation/retirement...and i'm hoping all this cash doesn't cause more problems than solve.

Gift tax is weird. With a gift the giver pays the tax over a certain lifetime threshold. At present Max would not pay taxes because the threshold is about $5.2M (assuming Max has not already given more than about $4.7M in his lifetime)

The bus monitor will not pay taxes on the gift money.

If one of the parents of the kids sues to get his/her "Cut"....I don't think I'd have the brass to do that, & I would hope that the arrogant bstrd would think 2 or 3X before doing such an idiotic thing...I'd be laying as low as I could, hoping that NOBODY would find out that I was one of the parents responsible for such a little monster.

Is this enough from the 7th grade perpetrators?

Anderson Cooper read two of their official statements on CNN's "Anderson 360."

"I feel really bad about what I did," Wesley, one of the boys in the video, said in a statement issued to the show by police. "I wish I had never done those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that to them."

"I am so sorry for the way I treated you," Josh, another one of the boys, said in a statement. "When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean and I will never treat anyone this way again."

one of the parents of one of the kids w/ the cameras was already on tv

full damage control mode...'oh i can't believe my kid would be part..blah blah blah'..then his kid all sad eyes claiming didn't know "other" kids would take it so far.

if their kids act this way I can only assume the parents are not any better.

For some othe families in that video a half mil is an extraordinary amount of money. Data just published this week shows the growing divide between black and white wealth in the US. My recollection is that the average net worth of a black household in the US is about $5,200. That means the bus monitor's take for ten minutes of ridicule is roughly equal to the lifetime efforts of one hundred black families.

IMO at least one parent will sue for this money and I can't blame them. If it were white kids ridiculing an old black bus lady I bet she wouldn't get squat for attention from the national media.

The guy organizing the fund raising is a local guy (Canadian) and was on the radio this morning saying she is keeping all of it.

Another way to think about the situation is to think of it this way.

What if a web site owner pocketed $20K for pimping an unauthorized video of your kid. Would you feel compelled to also get at least $20K for your kid's contribution to the stream of commerce?

For the web site owner this all about the money. He could give two craps whether people use the site to help a bus monitor or find the cure for cancer. He want his 4% if users succeed and 9% if they fail.

Honestly, they may not be any better it is hard telling at this point. The problem with them being on the news now is they can't do anything, nothing they say or do will prevent or reverse the actions in the eyes of the public. Apparently the kids have apologized, that may dull some of the outrage, but it won't stop it.

When you have something on the news and net in such force, and you are clearly in the wrong it takes a great amount of effort to reverse that, or at least balance it out. I'll fade over time, but you can't immediately stop it. I almost feel sorry for them, and you can bet those kids are none better.

Hm, hard telling, and i'd like to believe it's not true. I will say that I think a part of this whole thing is this lady reminds a lot of people of their grandmother, or meemaw, or granny, and that's driving some of the forces behind the indiegogo and news.

@ebacon, it would be extremely foolhardy to attempt to get money from the kids actions, not saying I don't get the point...I mean, Michael Bay stills takes credit for transformers 3:D

Actually, I think it probably would get far more attention as you betcha the race card would get played big time....

Well, Pal, THIS white kid woulda had his fanny Set Alight if HE'd pulled a stunt like that on a White, Green, Black, or Polka-dot-colored bus lady...And rightfully so...

WAHT??? are you serious? maybe in 1963 but in 2012 if it had been white kids picking on an old black lady the media would lose their freaking minds over it.

Kids would probably wind up getting prosecuted for a hate crime.

however... I have worked with many people of all races over the years, Including a number of older black grandma type women... And from my experience if those kids had tried something like that on the older black co-workers i have had.... the ladies would have smacked some sense into the kids pretty quickly. I got along very well with almost all of (well all my coworkers for that matter) them... but from what I saw older black ladies ain't the ones to mess with :D

The older black coworkers where sort of some of my favorite people at my job they where hilarious and very fond of me so they would bring me delicious snacks frequently they had baked... good ladies but don't mess with oh...dear lord no don't :D

:D I also had a black lady for boss once. It was a restaurant and she routinely chased hoodlums out with a firepoker she kept behind the register. It was awesome to watch.

I had several older black ladies who partially "Raised" me, too, & I am ETERNALLY thankful, grateful for the roles they played in my upbringing. You DO NOT want an older black lady angry w/you...Trust me on this !

Hahaha, I know what you mean. When I was very young, the neighbors across the road were a black preacher & his wife. They were both about the nicest people you could ever meet, & since they didn't have kids, they enjoyed having us over. But as I've mentioned before, 2 of my sisters were redheads, & prone to mischieviousness. ;) They could definitely get Mrs. Beard riled, once in awhile, & then you'd better look out. :yikes: :D

How'd we get here?

Are you kidding, we've been outraged at the kids behavior, outraged at people that think kids have done this before, relieaved that she is getting a postive outcome, dicussed violence statistics in the US, discussed the bias of those statistics and outliers, discussed how indiegogo works, and now we are discussing how race plays into this already overwith issue.

I think we are still missing some major points, namely how this hotbed issue effects Greeces economic crisis and wether or not this supports the theory that Stanley Kubrick faked the moon landing.
