Did you ever find any jazz tapes?

I was wondering how often live jazz tapes show up on the R/R market? Or radio aircheck jazz tapes.

I found about 50 last year, I believe many recorded from NYC radio stations in the late 50s/early 1960’s. I’m not sure If any are live recorded performances since my open reel machines aren’t working, but it would be interesting to find out.

I had hoped to rope another local AKer with a working R2R set-up to let me bring them over to find out, but I haven’t had the chance yet—

Sounds fascinating. I just got into R/R, too bad we are not closer. I met a guy with 5 or 6 R/Rs and not one was working. So don't feel bad. Anytime you have the opportunity to pick up a working R/R in good working order you should snatch it up if budget allows.

I'm just working on transfer of my first R/R tape for someone. Folk music from the 60s'. After I'm set I will offer free transfer to CD for R/R tapes...if it is something I'd like to add to my archive as well as donate to the Internet Archive, which I am a volunteer of. Person just pay shipping both ways, everything else is free.

Also same deal with cassettes, vinyl and 16mm films (silent)...free transfer to CD and DVD. (for film) Hopefully will be set for sound 16mm some day. (Pending hitting the lotto!)

Yes. I found many. Both commercial recorded or self-recorded. They can sell for big money.

A guy said he had a few commercial jazz tapes. I wasn't interested. Guess I should have looked at them. I was interested in odd ball tapes. Figured the commercial tape was copyrighted so could not put up online.

I found one recently from KNEW in NY around 1982. Fascinating listening to old tapes / radio. Paid $10 for it. He knew what it was so guess that is what jazz radio goes for from that era. I'd like some 1960's jazz radio tapes.

Our local vinyl store sells used r/r tapes when they get them, but as of yet I haven't come across any jazz. Mostly easy listening/rock/classical. I did pick up a Simone & Garfunkel Bookends though. My favorite by them.
