Difference in Acoustic Research AR 3a & AR 2Ax speakers.

Have a pair of Acoustic Research AR 2ax's. But looking at other AR speakers, the AR 3A's seem to go for a lot more. What is the difference that make the 3a more desirable?

Better drivers, bigger woofer.

... which means lower bass response. And it is definitely noticeable.
I have pairs of both, and the 3a is the set I use daily.

The dome midrange in the 3a makes a huge difference as well.
