Direct Drive Turntable Thudding Noise When Spinning

I would do this. Sounds like you have some line noise. Maybe, check all solder points and connections are good. Deoxit on connectors?

I've got two projects I would like to get done, damping the Thoren's subchassis and fixing the Sanyo's motor noise. I'll probably take a look at the Sanyo this week, I'll post a picture of the the spindle ball bearing once I disassemble it and see what yall think. Thanks for the help everyone!
 
That’s not bearing noise. I’d imagine if you unplug it when running the noise would instantly stop (platter still spinning)?
 
I replaced the three PSU caps mentioned earlier, didn't do anything except the speed is more stable. @JP yes it stops making that noise as soon as I turn it off.
 
Someone mentioned it could be cogging, I just read about it a bit, is that something inherent with the motor design or an issue that has developed? The article I read mentions that it lower speeds, its audible.
 
Interesting, maybe its a Sanyo thing.
More than likely it's an age thing. If it has capacitors they need to be replaced. I just rebuilt the power supply for my Delphi. Nothing is immune to the ravages of aging... especially capacitors.
 
Here is a picture of the spindle, and bearing well cap with thrust pad. Notice the flat spot on the spindle, is that normal? @ripblade I have replaced all of them.

No it’s worn. What’s the thrust material? Pictures aren’t high enough reposition to tell. Looks like it’s metal on metal.
 
The thrust pad looks like aluminum maybe. Is there a way to remove that ball bearing and replace it, it looks like it has red threadlock around when I look up close.
 
Seems rather strange to be metal. Don’t know this model, but have never seen a unit done that way. Typically there would a polymer disc or similar for it to ride one.

The ball should come out. Likely you can rotate it and put it back. I’d put some type of thrust disc in there too.
 
It's in there TIGHT idk if I can get it out. There is no way to get under or around it without scratching everything. I saw on a Technics sp10 the spindle is hollow and the bearing can be pushed out with a wood stick. Nothing unscrews or anything if the spindle is hollow, there isn't a way to get to it.
 
SP-10 MKII/2A is the opposite arrangement - thrust pad is on the spindle and the ball is captive at the base of the bushing.
