DIY Array-O-Wave. Yesterday's progress - pix

I am going to round over one side then switch the drivers front to back and see what sounds better. Just ordered my Z boards and new crossover parts. That should take care of the crossover issue for now.

Until science comes up with an infinitely rigid, 2-dimensional pannel, we're stuck routing reliefs/roundovers!

I think the vibration in the board is actually adding some thing to the drivers. I drapped some automotive dampning material over them the other day and some of the life went out of them.
 
Update: I've ordered the Z-boards and the brand new, unused crossover parts. Hopefully they will all be here next week. This weekend, after the Woodward Dream Cruz, I will disassemble them and round over one side of each baffle board then mount the drivers on one of the speakers from the front and on the other speaker mount them on the back. Then get Ross (hint hint Ross) to come over and measure each one (Dinner included).

Then which even one test and sounds the best will be the way to go with the other one. From there we will also look at the crossover points and such to see if any tweeking needs to be done in that area.

Just to show two possibilities with the same results, the first screen shot is of the Oblawaves with the wide baffle board and no Bass Drop comp filter. The second screen shot is with a 12" baffle board and the drivers centered with the Bass Drop comp filter. The responce curves at the same....for the most part.

I didn't want to add anything more than nacassa3y into the signal path so I went with the wide board and no filter.

Here are a couple pix. There are 8 close out 69 cent woofers on each baffle with a 6x6 JBL waveguide and Selenium 220 compression driver in the middle of each 4 woofers. I used the standard eWave crossover. They needed a sub to get to 30hz but where strong down to 50hz or less. I am now a really believer in multiple small woofers. The bass was tight and fast. There was now bass cancellation because of the wide baffle.

I don't know what happened to them. I traded them for some other speakers and think they may have been dismantled for parts. Anyway, it was a very cheap experiment that I could have lived with for ever.
