PE #Goldwood GW-10PC-4 10" Heavy Duty Woofer 4 Ohm.

PE#Goldwood GM-85/4 Heavy Duty 5-1/4" Sealed Back Midrange.

Woofers and mid are poly. Woofers are ran in series, really lightens the load on these budget woofs. Mid was definitely worth $10us.

I may upgrade in the future, but I'm happy with them for now. Really good with da funk.

The thing about wood and sun fading is that the different shade of color is in the cells of the wood. If you would just strip the finish off the cabinet, you would still see the shade of the wood that has been sun bleached. I have done some color matching for restoration work and it is a tough nut to crack. Sometimes, depending on the species of wood and the difference in shades, it's possible to strip, sand and bleach the entire panel back to similarity. Also, sometimes after all that work, when you apply a new finish, the discoloration will reappear. Sometimes it is not that noticeable and sometimes it is similar to the original.

For the amount of work involved, the potential reward, and the risk of not very much improvement, I would enjoy the DLK4's and look at them as a very rare and classic piece, much like a Steinway that has been in the sun.

One thing you could try is to use a color wax and apply it heavily to the bleached areas, maybe using a clear wax for the areas that are darker. Me, and a couple of my homeys swear by this stuff: Lundmark's.[/QUOTE]

Hi I wanted to post a pic of one of my pairs of dlk 4's,its an old pic from when I got them but there in very good shape just a little sun bleached from grills left on as is expected with 35yr old speakers,and the marble tops were broken so I need to get them made up an sized correctly for the cavity. I haven't had much time to restore the cabinets yet but they are in very nice shape with no chips or scratches on them.Anyone no the best way to remove the dark shadow line area on the fronts from the sun fading? The guy I got these from had them re foamed about 5 years prior to me buying them and there still in good condition. An they still sound fantastic!!! :yes:

Hi anybody in the great state of Minn know of a good place to go an purchase some new marble inlays for my 4's ? I'm looking for someplace that can do custom sizing of the marble so it fits n looks original. Thanks for any an all help!

I'd look for a place that specializes in stone countertops....they should be able to help you out, and you might be able to find some small "scraps" (say from a sink cutout from a counter install) that they'd sell for cheap...

This is probably your easiest route. Also, if you consider granite instead of marble, you'll probably have an easier time finding something. The difficulty might be in finding something thin enough, instead of the 1"+ standard for countertops.

Yes it is an odd size for the thickness of the inlay, it maybe very hard to fit it like original factory tops. Any shops do custom cutting of marble or granite ? I really like to stay with marble but granite maybe a nice option. :scratch2:

Hi The highs an mid's are just fantastic! Don K. was thee Master of the cross over and voice coil design. Voicing on these dlk 4's is to die for very natural and crystal clear not harsh.Many manufactures/designer turn to Don for designing of there x-overs for there speakers.As far as who made the drivers for the DLK Speakers,Don bought the motor Assembly's meaning just the metal baskets and magnets structures from CTS on most older dlk's then switch to Heppner assembly's ,(None of the woofers or mids were off the shelve drivers!) Don did not like the quality control so Don had all his wound in house at there factory to meet his standers,so he made all his own voice coils and made all his own paper cones and spider suspensions,he only used the motors/ baskets and the only exception to this was with the Tweeters,there he did use off the shelve Philips and also the Panasonic/EAS tweeters out of Japan.Latter Don did developed his ULM line of mid/tweeters for the the 4's and 3's.The12"woofers in the 4's that have the Alnico mags are some of thee very best bass speakers your likely too ever here! now having said that the 12"'s with ceramic mag are a very close second, they can handle more power then the Alnico's but to me the Alinco's are a lot warmer and more natural sounding with better low bass. :yes::yes::yes:

I just saw this thread. I used to sell dlk's and still own 2 pairs of 1-1/2's. Sadly I let my 2's, 3's and 4's go long ago. The 4's were so impressive with rock music. I'd love to find another pair.

If you ever do decided to refinish, and there aren't deep scratches, I'd consider steel wool and tung oil. Not shiny and brings the luster out nicely.

Hi..there have been 4 pairs of dlk 4"s listed for sale on CL in Mlps. sense march of this year. All of them sold very quickly and some of them were sold for very reasonable prices.I don't know what your chances of seeing a pair of 4's for sale in your area are but if your willing to travel to Mn. keep your eyes open on CL or sometimes ebay and you will see them pop up on and off. good luck finding another pair,it's a shame you got rid of them 4's but they can be had here locally if your watching for them. they do go fast so you have to move really quick on them when they do pop up for sale.In my opinion hands down the dlk 4's are thee most under the radar and also can be the hardest to find speakers out there,they are at the top of a short list of some the thee Very best loud speakers Ever made period.Hope your able to find another pair someday.:thmbsp:

hi your 2's look great! I know they sound great as well, I have two pairs of dlk 2's both pair have the factory upgrades which were better tweeters and woofers then the normal dlk 2's. they are the older model from 1978/79 very nice and every bit as good as the dlk 3's, enjoy those because the older models are getting harder to find these days especially in nice condition.:thmbsp:

Hi. thanks for the info checked into it yesterday they all do counter tops but they don't seam interested in cutting a small peace for the top inlays of these dlk 4 speakers. I might have to call s sub contractor/ tile guy to have him size and cut the marble. :scratch2:

Here's another thought...there is a spectacular assortment of ceramic tile available in larger sizes, 16x16, 18x18, and possibly larger. There are tiles that look like marble, granite, and natural stone. They can be easily cut to a smaller size.

I don't know exactly what size fits the top of the speaker cabinets, but this may be an easy, gorgeous, inexpensive solution for your speakers.
