Here's another thought...there is a spectacular assortment of ceramic tile available in larger sizes, 16x16, 18x18, and possibly larger. There are tiles that look like marble, granite, and natural stone. They can be easily cut to a smaller size.

I don't know exactly what size fits the top of the speaker cabinets, but this may be an easy, gorgeous, inexpensive solution for your speakers.

Hi I wanted to share with you all and am finally trying to post a few pics of my pristine all original and factory dlk 4's they have upgraded Rosewood Cabinets with the marble inlays an Customs CTS 12" Woofers with Alnico magnets and they sound Magnificent!!

Also my other pair of dlk4's that have the Heppner drivers in them,I'm in the process of restoring these as we speak and are looking for marble or granite to in the inlays,they both sound just fantastic and I consider myself very fortunate to own them.

Hi dlk speaker fans. I have the original dlk speaker brochures for models 1/4, 1/2, 1, 1 1/2, 2, 3, and 4's. I got them from Shaack Electronics back in the day. Between my brother and I, we've owned a few different models.A couple pair of Modular 1's, first generation Model 1 1/2's, 1st gen Model 2. Model 4 and a pair of the 6x9 Power Dome (I think they were called, "Power Dome") with the white cone. I think they were white to keep cooler, because of being mounted in the back window tray area... still have Modular 1's, 2's and the 4's.

Hi..thanks so much for posting back with pics of your dlk4's. what an outstanding pair of dlk 4's you have there MrCeilings!! In Very Very clean shape an grills an tops look to be in fantastic shape as well! What a rare speaker these are and to see such a great example of them and them being well over 30yrs old you never know by looking at them the cabinets are in just beautiful condition. I bet they still sound amazing!! Do you know if the 12" woofers on your pair 4's have Ceramic or Alnico magnets on them and did you re foam them yourself or send them out to a shop to be done? It looks like a very clean professional job done on them 12" woofers being re foamed! :thmbsp: :yes:

Thank you for the compliment on the 4's. I'm the original owner and proud of that ,I guess. I never had them placed where direct sunlight would hit them and I only used "Lemon oil" on the wood. Lightly vaccumed the grills and inside and around the black base area. I photograghed only 1 grill but they are both just like NEW. The marble tops also are like new. The tops, I would just use Pledge on to dust off. I alway made sure the pledge(WAX) would never touch the wood surrounding the marble. Really , I'm that anal about taking care of these...no nick or scratches they are like new. Boxes are long gone, I think my Dad threw them out...
Yes I had them refoamed in the early 90's at Midwest. I haven't had the grills off in a long, long time and I see I'm missing the black surrounds for the tweeters. I think they can be made pretty easy.

hi thanks for posting!! a lot of people just tossed this kind of info in the trash I'm afraid,very glad you did not and could share it with us all the brochure on the dlk 1 1/2 ! That's the older first edition model with the CTS drivers/woofers with Alnico magnets on the 8" and also the very common an OLDER CTS tweeters that a lot of company's were using in there speaker lines back then like Altec/Fisher/OHM etc. Do you have any brochures on the dlk 4's you can post/share with us ? if please do

Hi yes the model 4's with the Alnico magnets have a warmer sounding bass then the models with Ceramic magnets but that's not to say ones better then thee other because that's all up to the owners/listeners perspective on which they prefer,:scratch2: I myself happen to prefer the Alnico magnets on the 12" woofers verses the 12" woofers with Ceramic mags,I do own both types of dlk model 4's and love them both but it's really kind of spitting hairs both are really very high quality drivers but it's just my preference for a warmer tone and deeper lower bass from them.

Wow....thanks for posting those brochures. They are the first that I have seen. I really like my DLK2's that I restored. I'd sure appreciate seeing a sales brochure on those if you get time to post it, MrCeilings.

WOW!!!!! Cant tell you how grateful I am for you posting this in my thread and for all DLK fans out there to see!!! This factory/shaack brochure on the DLK 4's looks be showing a model of dlk4's that matches my one owner pair, it looks like the twin pair of CTS 12" Alnico custom twin woofers and mids I have on my the pair of 4's that are pictured above,and the other pair of 4's I own have the twin Green basket Heppner 12" woofers and custom heppner mid ranges on those. I will tell you Both pair do sound Magnificent!! It's not all about looks on these dlk 4's ,It's that they really BRING HOME THE GOODS!! :yes:

I have two pairs of dlk 2's both pair have the factory upgrades which were better tweeters and woofers then the normal dlk 2's.

I'm curious as to what the difference was. I've replaced my well used CTS tweeters with the quality copies that PartsExpress sells. My woofers are the square magnet alnicos.

Are you sure those aren't Model 3's. They have similiar woofer and tweeter to the 4's. The model 3 box is 15"s deep. 2's were about 12 1/4" or slightly bigger. BTW I call my brother and he's got the dlk Model 2 sheet and his receipt from Shaack, I'll post it all.

Hi mark..Thanks for your ??. I will try to post some pics of the two pairs of dlk 2's that have the optional factory upgrades that were available when I bought them back in 1979. I'll tell you that the upgrade model 2's did not have the CTS Tweeters they had Don's very own specially developed and designed with a paper coned tweeter that has an open back to it so that it would drop down to a lower frequency and sound very warm, it was cutting edge back them, most tweeters couldn't go that low in there frequency but by having the cone of the upgraded tweeter open and just glued to a dampening foam backing very similar dampening foam to the JBL L100 cone tweeter had around them on the outside but not the same those were sealed back tweeters. These DLK Model 2's with the up graded tweeters and heavier woofer and redesigned cross overs are there second best speakers they ever made only behind the dlk model 4, better then the dlk3's better then the 1 1/2's better then there normal model 2's :thmbsp:
