Do you drink and spin records?

Hi seems like a strange question to ask, I think we probably all enjoy a beverage while listening to our favourite LP's but, lately been wondering if i was to become intoxacated ever so slightly, would I accidently scratch a record with carelessness?? I believe I could:yes: and this isn't something I would want to happen as I have spent a lot of money on my collection and the risk is too great. I'm talking about just having a few wines or beers or whiskeys or the whole lot:D kidding.... Anyway just thought I'd see what you guys think about that subject and whether or not you have done damage or nearly did due to the drink or do you consider mixing playing Lp's with drink a big :nono: ?

I've never spilled drinks on any LPs, but I sure have dropped them drunk. I don't think there was any huge damage done. I bet you could clean albums with a high enough proof alcohol. Probably want a rinse afterward.

Dammit Daza152, your spinning records and drinking and and asking about buying classic LPs and we are drinking coffee and trying to think of a reason to not go to work today!
 
Yes I do. I once dropped an LP while sober, so I don't a couple of drinks (gin & tonic preferably) is going to increase that risk.
 
Yes, I do. Moderation is always a good idea. Getting drunk isn't pleasant to me, hopefully not to you either.

After decades of handling LPs, and decades of drinking I have damaged only a few LPs and all without any help from alcohol.

Enjoy yourself. This is a hobby that brings a lot of joy. Having a drink isn't a bad thing either.
 
I can think of no occasion when a few drinks lead to damaged lp, cd, tapes........

If this is a concern, don't drink. many folks just cannot.
 
Just got off of work. And tipping a few bud lights. Jamming with my nak dragon. To the sounds of Van Morrison, The Who Tommy ect.. But Thanks for the warning I'm sure I will be spinning some vinyl soon. Its only 8:45 AM getting an early start to my weekend. Regards Dale
 
I like beer and LPs and the occasional boubon.

I agree that getting wasted should not be the goal.

Last night, I stayed up late after a few beers and a b-ball game and listened to music. Since it was late, I played CDs and stopped drinking beers. As a result, no LP damage.

I only drink when I'm alone or with somebody.:D That said, I rarely, if ever get drunk anymore. I find I prefer a 2-3 beer buzz far more than getting trashed. It must be the years of practice, but I don't think I've ever screwed up a record that I attribute to drinking.
 
In another life. The damage was mostly done by improper quicky wet cleaning and leaving dozens of LP's out of their sleeves and stacked, stored, leaned in the craziest places. Using covers for multiple purposes got there own share of abuse, too.

I almost never drink, except on rare social occasions. That's partly because I'm gluten-intolerant, and most alcohol is made from gluten-containing grains, but also partly because I just never enjoyed it much; I don't enjoy the feeling of being drunk. When listening to music, I want to enjoy the music to the fullest, so why would I want to dull my senses and impair my full ability to savor the sounds? Makes no sense to me, but then again, a lot of the things that a lot of people do, don't seem right to me. That's okay; diversity is what makes life and society interesting!
